What are Vaginal Insufflations?

You perform vaginal insufflations by infusing an ozone/oxygen gas mix into the female reproductive system with the help of a catheter. They are best performed in a continuous fashion: one attaches a catheter to the ozone output hose and allows for the ozone/oxygen gas mix to flow in for the desired amount of time.

What Equipment Do You Need for VI?

Here is what you need in order to perform VI directly from the ozone generator in a continuous fashion. Which in my opinion is the best way to do it.

You need:

1. Oxygen source (tank or concentrator) including low flow regulator

2. Ozone generator

3. Extra silicone tubing, connector, catheter

[3a.  OPTIONAL: humidifier and trap]

4. Mask

5. Extras: at least two old or white towels, some plastic cover, a good book

In the picture above you see the most basic setup for vaginal insufflations: an oxygen tank (although I prefer using an oxygen concentrator and an external low flow regulator), the Promolife Dual Cell O3Elite, some extra silicone tubing, a special connector and a catheter

1. Oxygen source:

Either an oxygen tank or an oxygen concentrator can be used which produces oxygen of at least 90% purity. Whatever oxygen source you choose, make sure your ozone generator is able to produce concentrations between 20 and 50 mcg/ml at the given oxygen flow. Consult the chart of your ozone generator to find out whether you will be able to produce those concentrations.

2. Ozone generator:

It should be an oxygen fed generator which can produce ozone concentrations of at least up to 50 mcg/ml. Any of the recommended generators on this page will do the job. The one in the pictures above is the EliteO3 Dual Cell from Promolife.

Get a longer piece of silicone tubing to comfortably sit or lie during the treatment.

This connector is a catheter adapter. It fits the standard or silicone catheters

You can use either the standard or silicone catheters. You can also use luer lock catheters and a luer lock connectors to attach it to the silicone tubing.

3. Silicone tubing, connector, catheter:

Take 3 to 4 feet of silicone tubing, use a luer lock on one side (to connect it with the ozone generator) and this adapter on the other side. The adapter fits perfectly into the catheter. Use either standard catheters with the orange top or silicone catheters. They can be reused. Just rinse them with warm water.

In the picture above you see the setup for vaginal insufflations with trap and humidifier. The trap protects the generator from water. It humidifies the ozone.

[3a. OPTIONAL Trap and humidifier:

with prolonged insufflations increased dryness can occur. Running the ozone through water first can mitigate or prevent that. The trap serves to protect the ozone generator from water which tends to travel back through the tubing. Insert enough water into the humidifier to cover the stem, so around 1/3 to 1/2 full. The trap must remain empty and is placed between the ozone generator and the humidifier. So the ozone travels first into the trap, then into the humidifier with water, then into the silicone tubing and then through the catheter.]

One of the best ways to protect yourself from breathing the escaping ozone: a mask with either a #2097 or #2128 filter.

Make sure to protect your furniture. Especially if it's an awesome pink velvet couch ;-).

Put some extra towels on top of the plastic and on your crotch.

4. Mask:

During VI a lot of ozone can escape into the room. You want to protect yourself from breathing it in as much as possible. What I have found works the best is wearing a mask which filters out ozone. An additional fan and good ventilation through open windows offers extra protection.

5. Extras: Towels, plastic cover, a good book

Use the plastic to cover your furniture. Ozone bleaches every fabric it comes in contact with. Just keep in mind that over time, the plastic will be destroyed by ozone. So either regularly check that the plastic is still intact, or get a piece of silicone sheets, or treat it with a silicone spray. Put one towel on top of the plastic and the other one on top of your crotch. It will absorb some of the ozone. During the VI you can relax and read or work on your computer.

I don't even know what is better: the book or the movie? I've watched some scenes of the movie 10 times when it was available on Netflix. It's just absolutely brilliant. Whether you read or watch movies on your computer: just lean back and enjoy the bubbles!

How to Perform Vaginal Insufflations with Ozone

For detailed instructions, see this step-by-step guide.

1. Prepare everything: put the plastic and the towels on your couch, connect the oxygen source with the ozone generator, plug both into the power supply (if needed), connect the silicone tubing and the connector to the ozone generator.

2. Open or turn on the oxygen source. If it’s a tank: open the valve of the tank and the regulator at a low flow of 1/8 LPM. If it’s an oxygen concentrator: let the machine warm up for a few minutes, then adjust the external regulator to 1/8 LPM.

3. Put the mask on.

4. Undress, sit down on the couch, and insert the catheter.

5. Connect the catheter with the silicone tubing.

6. Set the ozone generator to the desired ozone concentrations. 20 to 50 mcg/ml is sufficient.

7. Read a book or work on your laptop. Start with 10 minutes three times a week. Work up slowly to 20 to 30 min daily.

8. After you're done turn off the ozone generator, turn off or close the oxygen, remove the catheter, and rinse it out with warm water. You may reuse it.

Hi Paola, what an amazing blog you have here, so engaged! Do you still recommend Ozone IVs as well? I read that rectal ozone had over 90% effectiveness. You don't seem to recommend it, but there are studied to prove it's effectiveness, especially rectal ozone for autoimmune. So would you still recommend IVs or RI?

    Hi Paola,

Why is hypothyroidism a contraindication to insufflation?

    Reply
    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Danielle,

It's hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is a contraindication for all ozone treatments, since ozone is believed to stimulate hormone production.

      Hypothyroidism shouldn't be a problem.

    Hi Paola,

I have a ureaplasma infection in my uro/genital tract and has penetrated skin tissues. I just got an ozone generator from promo life and started at 1/16…42 gamma for 6-7 minutes. Do you think this is an ok place to start? I am hoping to try and build up eventually to 30 minutes a day over time. I appreciate any advice.

      Hi Celine,

a low vitamin A approach could work …
Then vaginal insufflations, or drinking ozonated water. Or doing bladder insufflations or irrigation with ozonated water.

Hello, what about penis insufflation? Is that also an option or not? 😀

      Hi Dave,

yes, this falls under bladder insufflations and is a bit more complicated to perform, both for men and women.

As for men, I have been told that it can be also quite uncomfortable, but it is a viable option and some men do perform it and report good results!

    Poala,
I have chronic Lyme and Bart. I believe I was infected in my early teens, I am now 48; I managed to live a relatively normal life until 2006 when I was involved in a traumatic car accident while going through a fairly difficult divorce.

My story follows the typical one of a person (especially a woman) in the US with an autoimmune disease; years of seeing specialists, courses of many prescription medications, and finally being shuffled off to psychiatrists and told it was “all in my head”.

About ten years ago I began to experiment with various alternative modalities; Ive had some great results and made significant improvement. I've been able to rid myself of the systemic candida, improve my sleep and reduce my pain significantly. Still, I am left with some symptoms- especially a complete lack of energy.

I stumbled upon ozone therapy about a decade ago but for various reasons never purchased a generator until about a month ago. I found you in my online research for protocols; I like that you are open to and vocal about using a more aggressive upper limit range in your approach to ozone. Also, you are only one of two sources I have found that underscore VI as a systemic delivery system. I am doing both RI and VI currently.

I love that you are a strong, intelligent woman, who supports others in their journey for healing; I really identify with that energy.

I have tried many different modalities in my personal journey towards healing. If you're open to the idea, I would love to connect via zoom or even email.

Regardless, I just wanted to reach out to tell you that I think what you do is amazing and I value the information you post for others to learn from. Thank you, I appreciate you.

    Warm regards,

    Amber

I was surprised that pregnancy and breastfeeding was not under contraindications. But it vaginal insufflation safe during pregnancy?? It seems like it would either be really good for the fetus or really bad.

    Reply
    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Honey,

The general recommendation for pregnant women is to do ozone past the first three months.

As to breastfeeding – there are no known recommendations as far as I know. I don't think there is enough data to be able to say one way or the other.

Personally, I think ozone should be OK.

      Best,

    • Honey

That is great news! Thanks for your response! I am having a hard time figuring out what time of day is good for doing Insufflations. This is because my naturopath told me not to do ozone of any form within three hours after taking antioxidants or eating antioxidant rich food. And to wait half hour after insufflations or ozone water before I take supplements (which have antioxidants. Is this advice accurate? I alternate between vaginal, rectal, ear, and ozone saunas. For now, I feel limited to only do ozone at night before bed because I take glutathione and ALA in the morning (which are antioxidants) and it will have been a while since vitamin C and E etc. Also, I do coffee enemas in the morning. Is this considered an antioxidant? And should I avoid ozone around the coffee enemas?

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Honey,

I think if you want to avoid interference between antioxidants and ozone, then yes it makes sense to space them apart.

But even if you do NOT space them apart, you will likely get benefit from both the vitamins and the ozone, it may just be a little less than if you did space them apart.

According to my research, coffee enemas and coffee consumption seem to increase glutathione levels by 16 to 20% which may be significant and it may impact ozone's actions. But there is no research that deals with ozone AND coffee consumption or enemas, so this is just an assumption or conclusion based on the coffee studies (but that conclusion may be wrong).

      Best,

    • Honey

So if I were to do ozone insufflations or sauna first thing in the morning, how long should I wait until taking antioxidant supplements or breathing from a hydrogen machine? How long does ozone stay in your bloodstream or system after it enters the body??

Also, is ozone safe for rectal or ear insufflation or ozone sauna during pregnancy? Do you know the reason behind avoiding VI during the first trimester??

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Honey,

I think if you wait 1 to 2 hours, then you should be able to get the most out of the ozone and have minimal interference from the antioxidants.

There is very little or no research about ozone therapy and pregnancy and how much is safe or not, from what I understand. So most recommendations in that regard are mostly educated guesses made by ozone doctors. They may be correct or not …. it's not entirely clear, I think.

I believe the recommendation to wait beyond the first trimester is to allow the fetus to reach a certain size and the pregnancy to develop in a stable fashion before introducing ozone … that's my guess …

      Best,

    • Honey

What about your thoughts on drinking ozone water in the morning on an empty stomach? Still wait past the first trimester before trying this?

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Honey,

      sorry for the belated reply.

Yes, I would wait until after the first three months.

      Best,

    • Honey

In my last comment, I meant ozone water during pregnancy

Thank you Paola always for your wisdom and dedication. Has anyone experience with Endometrial atrophy and the use of ozone? Endometrial atrophy is a thinning of the uterine lining and sometimes also the vaginal walls? Since ozone can be drying at times, I was wondering if ozone would be contraindicated or beneficial for such a condition?

I am learning so much from you! Thank you!

Yesterday I did VI, RI, EI, and drank 800 ml of ozonated water. Is this too much? I want to do VI, RI, EI, body bag, mouthpiece, cupping and drink ozonated water. Is it better to do some of these on the same days and not others? What is too much ozone? I was diagnosed with parasites and heavy metals (mercury).

    Thanks!

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Kelly,
How much of each of these treatments did you do at what ozone concentration?
In general, it is possible to do many ozone treatment on one day, but concentration and duration is important.
Also: if you're doing that much ozone, make sure you're either supplementing with Vitamin C or eating citrus fruits or other high Vitamin C foods.

      Best,

    • Kelly

      Thanks, Paola!

Here's what I did in one day:

      EI: 1/8, 40 gamma w/humidifier
      RI: 1/8, 50 gamma w/catheter
VI: 1/8, 40 gamma for 20 minutes (direct method)
800 ml water bubbled for about 20 minutes.

Does ozone deplete the body of Vit C?

Does the humidifier diminish the strength of ozone?

I just got the body bag from Promolife. Would the body bag and VI be the best overall ozone treatments?

      Thank you!
      Kelly

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Kelly,

I don't know how long you did the EI and RI for or what the ozone volume was you used, but assuming it wasn't something excessive, this does not sound like too much … but this largely depends on a person's constitution and sensitivity.

Yes, ozone depletes the body of Vitamin C, so it's recommended to supplement with it during ozone treatments and/or eat vitamin C rich foods.

Yes, the humidifier diminishes the strength of ozone significantly during the first 10 minutes or so.

The ozone sauna is in my opinion one of the best systemic ozone treatments. The body bag is a lesser alternative of the ozone sauna.

Hello I am experiencing some yellow or off white discharge after insufflations. Is this normal? I had a uterine fibroid emobization procedure done this past June 15, 2021. I am 6 sessions in with vaginal insufflation. I do them every other day at 1/4 setting on my tank.

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Pricha,

for how long do you do them?

And yes, some yellow or off white discharge can occur. This could potentially be an indication of yeast or candida, or simply vaginal secretions …

  11. Paulina M

I have a question, I went to a wellness center and did the vaginal ozone insufflation. I did it for 30 min and it was my first time. I wanted to try it for BV and yeast infection. That day I was fine but the next day I had aches on my joints and have had an itchy, dry vagina. Is this normal after VI treatment? I still have these symptoms one week later.

    Reply
    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Paulina,

      what is BV?

Yes, some women do experience increased dryness after VI. 30 min is a lot for the first time. Also: if the oxygen flow was too high, then this may have contributed to dryness. Ideal flow is 1/16 or 1/8 LPM, not higher.

It is unusual that you have the joint pain still a week later. Do you EVER have joint pain, or is this something very rare?
It could be a die-off reaction.
But see if taking Vitamin C could resolve it.

      Best,

    • Paulina M

BV is Bacterial vaginosis. I never have joint pain that's why I was a bit concerned. I also don't know the oxygen flow rate, the lady setup everything and didn't tell me the rate of the flow. I will try the vitamin C and update you in a week to see how I am feeling. Also, for dryness I am using coconut oil, is there a better solution to this?

      Thank you

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Paulina,

if the joint pain is something new, then yes, it could be a Herx.

The settings look good, the flow was adequately low and the ozone concentration was not too high and not too low.

Yes, you can use coconut oil. Some use yoghurt to repopulate with good bacteria, but I don't know if this is indicated in case of BV …

I would like to add a caution for women using the Promolife vaginal insufflation device. I am disappointed that my review was not posted on the website so am hoping that others will read this information before using this device. I am not against the device in fact it seems to be very well designed for optimizing delivery of ozone to the vagina. However, for individuals with fungal infections they need to be very careful. I have an overgrowth of Candida and after I used the device the Candida spread to the Urethra and I have battling a UTI for over 2 months. I'm currently on strong antifungals to try and eliminate the infection.
In my experience ozone is great for eliminating viral and bacterial infections but not for fungus.
I just don't know if I will ever to be able to use the device again given the proximity of the vaginal opening and the urethra.

    • Student of Life

      Hi Shirley,

Fungal UTI’s are the worst. Cross contamination, especially w fungal infections is an extremely important thing to be aware of…it’s no joke as u well know

Like u I’ve had a lot of fungal issues & like parasites, they are often MUCH harder to deal w than viruses or bacteria, often no matter how they are treated. For example I’ve knocked out a viral cold sore many times in literally just 2 minutes w Violet Ray-electrical frequency device but even 15-20 minutes daily did little for a bad fungal infection in the skin. There’s all kinds of new fungal strains etc from anti-fungal chemicals & it’s become much more dangerous & harder to deal w since the 80’s, when anti-fungal paint became popular

Ozone in my experience is one of the absolute best treatments for the toughest cases of fungus, probably bc it breaks down their notorious biofilms & is one of the few things fungus cannot adapt to. But it hits hard & fast & quits fast & often needs to be paired w other longer acting topical & systemic treatments, like natural & or Rx anti-fungals, probiotics, and sometimes high-end frequency treatments in tough cases

In ur case a lot of the yeast probably was killed but unfortunately even ozone usually isn’t going to knock out all of it in the first 1-3 treatments- & may actually wipe out more bacteria that helps keep it in check. There’s definitely a risk for cross contamination like u experienced w any infection….& fungus near the urethra is a big risk, in my experience.

U may want to look into probiotics specifically for than area. It’s not a cure but could help immensely w everything else ur doing. What’s a probiotic in the gut can be a pathogen elsewhere. I’ve used oral probiotics that were absolute Magic & clinically proven to prevent respiratory infections. Hopefully they have some good products for downstairs as well LOL

Like Paula said they’re reporting getting great results treating UTI’s w ozone & maybe there’s another way to VI’s (using methods like a small catheter or maybe funnel perhaps treating from the exterior?)wo the risk of cross contamination

Cross contamination is risk w just about any infection & doesn’t have much to do w ozone, & often happens wo any treatments whatsoever. Actually experienced the exact same thing when I got a fungal UTI that happened after my motorcycle broken down I had to take a long walk in business clothes during a hot summer…so an external rash was able to jump to a UTI…not fun especially when they gave me antibiotics despite my insistence it was fungal which literally made it exponentially worse after I took the first & last dose. Realized first hand how horrible antibiotics are and how quickly they cause damage

Anyways, . I hope u figure out what works In ur case

Hello! I am considering vaginal ozone after endometrial cancer surgery (hysterectomy) to prevent local recurrence. I was concerned about the ozone stimulating hormones that I don't want there to feed any possible remnants? What do you recommend? Thank you!

Hi Paola. I read through all comments and have found no one that has complained of this. Have you heard of VI causing spontaneous urination? I don't even feel it at all and if it wasn't for the water, I wouldn't know. I am pretty sure I do not have a urinary problem as I have never had signs or symptoms. The first time it happened I was standing and had just inserted the catheter and had no idea what was happening and was alarmed. The second time was a month later after insufflation. It seemed to happen automatically. It may have been because I inserted the catheter too deep and it entered or touched my cervix. My cervix may have prolapsed and is more easily accessible, I do not know. I'm 61 but in fantastic physical shape and have never had problems like this.

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Patricia,

I suspect it's not urination but a clear liquid discharge from the vagina. I heard other women report this. I had this happen after vaginal insertion of iodine, never after ozone. It may be lymph fluid? I'm not sure. Maybe try to reduce the ozone concentration or duration …

First of all I’ll like to sayThank you Paola for all that you do and helping us all!! Is there a rough timeframe on how long women experience the severe itching for? Wow it’s beyond intense and really don’t want to give up. I don’t have the excessive discharge in my underwear anymore however when I pull out the insufflation device it’s covered in yellow creamy discharge. Between that and the itching I’m two months with the vaginal insufflations and just hoping it’s going to get better. I remember one person saying at three months her discharge was nonexistent just curious what anyone else’s time frame was. I recently had an iv ozone treatment done for the first time as well and looking at incorporating a sauna. I know in my heart ozone is the way just need some feedback to keep pushing on lol!! Thanks so much!!!

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Erin,

I think the discharge may not be necessarily a Herxheimer reaction. I have reason to believe that VI can stimulate the natural secretions, and that's what it could be, maybe …?

The itching – this can take a while, anything from 2 weeks to several months.

If it's too much, see if doing douches with ozonated water maybe a better solution.

Also: lowering oxalate intake in the diet could potentially resolve the itching, which I speculate could be due to an oxalate purge …

    Hi,
I'm battling breast cancer recurrence 1 year after surgery. I've used ozone insufflation when first diagnosed. I was able to shrink my tumor. My life was in turmoil at the time and stopped using it. My tumor grew!. So I had surgery to remove it. One year…I now have a recurrence but in several places in the breast. I will be going for a pet next week. I put the system back together yesterday and had 2 -25 min vaginal insufflation treatments. Later in the evening I have spotting. I am 60 and in menopause…if only for 2 years (late on-set). Should I stop? I've searched the internet and can find nothing about bleeding after vaginal insufflation. Please anyone with this problem?

    Reply
    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Christine,

this may be due to either a) ozone's ability to stimulate hormone production, b) the catheter possibly having caused a tiny tear. If it was the latter, you can do the following: apply some lubricant like ozonated olive oil onto the catheter before inserting it, or using a humidifier, and/or reducing the ozone concentration, and/or reducing oxygen flow. Experiment with those different options and see if it resolves the issue.

But in general, a bit of spotting after VI is not a big concern. It's either a trigger of menstrual bleeding, or a small tear.

Hi there. I haven’t talked to you for 10 years or so. I was extremely sick in 2010 and bought an ozone generator because of you and got better. I’m gIad I didn’t get rid of it because yesterday I got diagnosed with a fibroid and cyst on my ovary. I’ve been extremely dizzy and short of breath..hemorrhaging during my cycles. I just knew something was going on.

I lost all of my 30’s being sick. Now I’m 40 and was thinking about having a baby…but I have this problem now. I’m pretty bummed.

Are there women here who have treated fibroids with ozone? Any success stories?
I’ve been reading comments in this section and was wondering what is the “VI” everyone is referring to? If someone knows of a device I can use to reduce the smell please let me know.
I have an African Grey Parrot and can’t have ozone around him. I’ll probably have to do a setup in my garage which I’m also worried about because I’ve been blessed with nosey neighbors.

      Hi Aman,
I can't think right now about a case where someone successfully treated fibroids with ozone. I thought to have remembered that there was a testimonial on a forum online about ozone therapy and lung fibroids, but could not find it now.

It may be worth a try though …

The way to minimize ozone exposure during VI (vaginal insufflations) is to either wear a mask on, or a fan in front of you, or open doors and windows, or a combination of those. See here https://thepowerofozone.com///protocols/how-to-protect-yourself-from-breathing-ozone/ .

Hi Paola: Me again, so soon. I've been having trouble with dryness lately and it seems that the VI contributes to that. I think maybe my age also and that I am post menopausal. Anyway, any suggestions on the VI? Should I lay off it for a while? Use less concentration? I've been doing 41 gamma at 1/8 for 20 minutes like once a week. Thanks.

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Ramona,

Yes, I would first reduce the flow to 1/16 LPM but keep the concentration the same and use a humidifier. So let the ozone run through water.

And reduce the duration to 10 to 15 min. Try this out and report back 😀 !

Hi Paola: I debated to ask you this question privately but then I thought perhaps there are other people who would be interested. Is VI okay to do on a regular basis if one is celibate? Asking for a friend, of course. (wink-y face here). Having recovered from Cervical Cancer using ozone (diet, detox, etc.) plus being post menopause, I'm not that interested in sex right now but want to keep doing my VI. Any contradictions there? Thanks!

Hi , i am in same situation as Ramona. Menopausal and dealing with vaginal lesion caused by hpv. Diet and supplements , suppositories, detox did not help and just started ozone vaginal insufflations twice a week (40 gama with 1/4 oxygen flow) for 5 minutes. Is this much ozone effective for treating hpv ?

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi sara,

for a start 5 min are OK.

Over time, it's recommended to increase to 15 to 20 min per day.

Also, a lower oxygen flow would be better, of 1/8 or 1/16 LPM (provided your ozone generator does not produce a too high ozone concentration at those flows).

How can I ensure the ozone is not hurting anyone else in my house who's not wearing a mask for and how long will it take for the ozone to become non-toxic in the air to the point I don't need to wear a mask any longer?

Also, is it effective to just VI the ozone directly from an ozone bag, rather than keeping the machine running? Thanks!

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Kylie,

if no one is coughing, having breathing difficulties, throat irritation, then generally the ozone levels are safe enough to be around.

Alternatively, you can also buy an ozone monitor: https://thepowerofozone.com///PLalert

Yes, the indirect route can be effective as well, buy you may need several syringes/bags full. So it's more work. I definitely prefer the direct route.

Hello Paola: Thanks so much for all your help. I told someone about your webpage today. I hope they contact you. Here's my question: When I cannot do a VI for a week or two, does this mean I have to start all over and build up the time again? I usually do 15-20 minutes at 1/8 41ugl. So if I miss a week or two do I have to start at 5 minutes again? Thanks.

What do you recommend to lubricate the catheter for a VI? I've been using the ozone creme (just a tiny bit) from Promolife, however, it gets clogged in the tip of the catheter. Is there something better to use that would be less clogging? Or is there a way to clean the catheter? Or do you recommend insertion without any lube? Thanks so much.

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Giselle,

you can use most vegetables oils: any type of olive oil, coconut oil, or any other oil you have in your kitchen.
But only IF you need it. If there is sufficient amounts of natural lubrication, then you can do without anything extra.
      I never use any lubricants.
To clean the catheter, just rinse it under warm water. Thanks to the ozone it's already sterilized! You can then reuse it.

    Hello Paola,

I have so much incredibly itching vaginally anytime I try to do VI. Have you heard of anyone experiencing this? I am hoping this is temporary and maybe it is due to infection down there dying off? I haven't been able to do it consistently. I think the longest I tried was 3 weeks and then stopped and couldnt do it for years because my roommates did not like the ozone smell. I started it up again and . I only do it for 15 min. I also tried to use ozonated olive oil suppositories in the past and it is even worse with using those. I cant tolerate the suppositories. I have multiple health issues going on, chronic fatigue, ebv, fibro, neuro pain in arms and legs. I have been told many years ago I had a resistant form of yeast infection vaginally so wondering if that is it?

      Hi Beth,

yes, some women experience increased itchiness after vaginal insufflations.

I speculate it could have to do with oxalate purge. Maybe go on a low oxalate diet for a few months and see if this will improve?

    Hello Paola,
Let me ask why in vaginal insufflations is possible to do a lot of minutes using direct insufflation from the ozone generator, but in rectal insufflation is recommedable to do just limitated volume of ozone. ¿Is it just for microbiome in the colon or there are another considerations?

    Reply
    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Gino,

with vaginal insufflations there is no danger of a build-up of the gas inside the body, since all excess gas easily escapes the way it came in.

It's different with rectal insufflations: here, a too high gas flow and too high gas volume can easily build up and lead to a rupture of the colon in people with weak or damaged colon walls.

Hi Paola loved the Bill Gates email my feelings exactly. My question is I had hysterectomy in 1994 is it ok to do the ozone insuffalations? I have been doing rectal ones with no problem but have recurrent utis. Thanks for your help!

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Roxanna,

      glad you liked it!

Yes, you can do vaginal ozone insufflations even after a hysterectomy. This should not impede the benefits.

For UTIs I would first try drinking ozonated water, and if that doesn't work then VI, since VIs can cause a flare up of UTIs in some cases, which is assumed to be a Herxheimer reaction.

If neither VI nor ozone water works, then bladder insufflations are also an option.

I hope one of them will work! Keep us posted.

Keeping to a low oxalate diet could be also a good idea.

      Best,

Hi, Paola! I see in your contraindications, you list “transplanted organs.” In this context, are you referring to a hysterectomy? I have had a hysterectomy, and so I assumed that vaginal insufflations may be somewhat less effective for me than for women who still have all of their parts. I'd love to know more specifics about what you consider to be a contraindication in this context, and why. Thank you!

    Reply
    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Ava,

a hysterectomy is not a contraindication for vaginal insufflations.

The removal of an organ has nothing to do with a transplanted organ.

You can do vaginal insufflations. The hysterectomy should have no impact on the effectiveness of VI.

    Hi Paola:

Great news. On May 14th, I was tested and found clear of cervical cancer, my large tumor as well as the HPV Virus. Although I did many all natural things, I attribute the clearing of the tumor to VI's and your suggestions around them. I had no surgery, chemo or radiation. VI was a big help. I would also look into a low oxalate diet.

There is reason to believe that those crystals are the main problem in vulvodynia in a large percentage of patients.

I have another one and I hope you don't mind. Is there any adverse effect (such as destruction of good bacteria along with the bad stuff) in the vagina in doing VI's? And if so, can anything be done about that?

    Reply
    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Giselle,

there was a study done once which showed no ill effects of ozone on the lactobacillus strains. I think those were the only ones they tested, possibly because they're the most important ones.

In general, I would not be concerned about the vaginal flora, since the access is much easier and you have to assume that it can be re-populated easily and it does not seem to be as important as the intestinal flora.

Some who are more concerned or who hope to treat yeast infections do vaginal douches with yoghurts or probiotics.

      I hope it helps.

I haven't used the Promolife device yet, and from talking to them a few days ago it seems that they're still working out some hiccups with the supplier.

As soon as that is evened out, I'm hoping to get a sample and try it out.

The main potential benefit I'm seeing is that it will prevent the excess ozone in the room so one is better protected from breathing it.

      Hi heather,

I'd use 40 to 60 mcg/ml and do it 2 x 30 min per day, in the case of an acute outbreak.

I doubt that this will eradicate the virus.

For that I would do ozone saunas or ozone IVs, and probably most importantly: go on a low carb, keto, or carnivore diet.

It appears that the virus benefits greatly from an elevated blood sugar level and the resulting chronic inflammation.

Love your post and dedication – thank you!! My friend is partially paralyzed (for 22 years) he was able to walk again but he still uses a catheter to pee.. in the last few years the cath often catches inside his urethra and he bleeds, and having issues getting it in – the use of ozonated olive oil helps a lot – seems like now there is a build up of scar tissue. Thinking if he uses a cath to put some ozone up there do you see any issues with that, and would it help with the scar tissue?
Will be buying an ozone machine based off your recommendations to work on my fibroids that returned after a myometomy.

      Hi Fiona,

I don't see an issue with putting some ozone into the bladder and urethra. But if there are open wounds, it may sting quite a bit in the beginning.

Not sure it would dissolve the scar tissue, but it's worth a try.

Nattokinase and serrapeptase may help with that, possibly.

Hi Paola: I've been doing my VI's everyday at 33 gammas at 1/8 for 20 minutes (intending to build up to 30 minutes) at 40 or 50 gammas at 1/8 for 30 minutes.. This is for cervical cancer, BTW. However, at 33 gammas for 20 minutes, I feel some stinging during and for a bit after especially when I go to pee. I am using a humidifier. Is this an unusual reaction? you can use it many times.

When I do the vaginal Insufflation, I experience a bubbling sensation I think from the humidifier. Would that be correct? Also, I'm doing it laying down. My other question is how to build up to the recommended dosage. Where to start and how fast to build up? Thanks for your website and help.

    Reply
    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Giselle,
the bubbling is the gas escaping, that's normal and nothing to be concerned about.

You can start with 5 min at 30 mcg/ml and work up to 30 min at max 50 mcg/ml.

Do it incrementally by increasing by 5 min and around 10 mcg/ml every week.

You can do the insufflations daily.

      Hi Ramona,

yes, that would count as an open wound.

But if it's in the cervix, I would still suggest you do the VI. Every day at least 30 min at an ozone concentration of 40 mcg/ml or higher. Oxygen flow: 1/8 to 1/16 LPM.

Also add ozone saunas, drinking ozonated water, and see if you can find a doctor to do ozone IVs. Do 2 to 3 different ozone applications every day.

I also recommend the carnivore diet: https://meatrx.com/category/success-stories/cancer/

Or at the very least a sugar free, grain free, low carb diet.

For women with blocked fallopian tubes what would you suggest? I currently provide ozone therapy but will doing intravaginal insufflation make it into cervix and into fallopian tubes or would a catheter need to be inserted through cervix for this to happen?

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Hyperbaric Therapy of Jacksonville,

I would suggest to proceed without any special modification. I doubt that the ozone can unblock them, although it would be good to know what the blockage is due to.

But no, it's not necessary to insert the catheter into the cervix. It's assumed that vaginal insufflations work because the ozone is absorbed by the surrounding moist tissue inside the vagina.

    Hi Paola

I have quite a thing going on with stage 3 uterine cancer which has spread among other areas to the cervix, which is very enlarged. The happy news first …Within 2 weeks of using ozone at a concentration of 47 ug/ml a tumour came away, it was 1 x 1.5 cm. This was most likely from the vaginal wall as cancer has spread there too, the uterus tumour is much larger at around 6 x 5 cm.

Unfortunately, I have continued bacterial infection which is really foul, this is due to the nature of this type of cancer. The 47 ug/ml concentration was not touching the bacteria so I increased the ozone concentration to 80 ug/ml and insufflated for 2 mins rather than 20-30 mins. I have been doing this for around 5 days sometimes 2 x a day. The foul odour is halted for around 5 hours after insufflation which is a great relief.

I have been in so much distress with these symptoms and cannot take any more antibiotics due to the effect on my gut which I am doing my best to reverse now. I am just concerned that I may cause damage to my vaginal tissue at such a high concentration of ozone. Are you able to advise me on this? I'm unsure of the effects of such a high concentration. Thank you

Newbie here! I originally chose ozone as treatment for my Lyme disease but would like to incorporate VI for funky yeast issues down there.I was wondering if I can do this while there is slight bleeding. Ive been bleeding on and off for a year now, after an autoimmune flare-up was caused by supplements. I hemorrhaged badly for months and this was contained with acupuncture. Now my uterus is swollen and shedding spontaneously. In the past, my gyno has suspected some endometrial atypia. I’m hoping the ozone can address this and lingering yeast. So can it be done if bleeding? Will there be harm to uterine lining? So glad to be here.

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Jennifer,

in general, during menstrual bleeding VI can be performed. In my experience and the anecdotal experience of others, VI can be safely done during menstruation (although some other ozone experts disagree.)

If the bleeding stems from the uterus in your case, then I think it's also ok. If it's from the vagina, then I would be careful, since if there is some tissue damage or an open wound, the ozone gas could potentially cause an embolism ….

I didn't think it could make it worse.

try with 1 glass on an empty stomach or at least 3 hours after your last meal.
Increase until you reach 4 to 6 glasses.
Wait 15 to 20 minutes after drinking it, before you eat again.

Uncomfortable flare ups of the infection you're dealing with. This is something that has been observed with some ozone treatments. It is explained by ozone activating a latent or chronic infection as part of the healing crisis.

Paula have you heard of people curing their UTIs with drinking the water only? Wondering if I need to do it multiple times a day or make and drink one big batch, as tolerated. Hard to always have fresh on hand.

      Hi Shannon,

I have overcome UTIs with drinking ozonated water a couple of times.
I would drink it 2 or 3 times a day when it was bad, and then tapered of to 1x a day.

      Hi Christie,

it's probably safe in pregnancy, but I would still not advise to use it for legal reasons.
And if the tiniest complication occurs, no one will be able to tell you if it had anything to do with the ozone and you wouldn't know either.
If you decide to, then I would not do it after the 1st trimester.

But I heard that some people do VI, ozone saunas and do cupping over the affected body parts while in the sauna. Whether this will help or not, I don't know. With cancer there are often many different factors at play.

I just started home VI therapy after spending $3000 on MAH ozone at my doctors office. I'm using the “measured” approach where I fill a syringe with a specific concentration (38-52 ug/ml) and use between 150-200 ml of the ozone gas. First off, the extreme energy increase and positive mood obtained through VI seems every bit as intense as the MAH delivery…at least for me.

Unfortunately I seemed to get a large die off of good bacteria because I had all the symptoms similar to taking antibiotics. I recover after a few day using up to 150B probiotic/day. Could this reaction be due to too high of a concentration or three treatments within a week? The doctor had me take a 50B probiotic/day but didn't mention that it was for the ozone therapy. The MAH therapy I received was 10-14 days apart over 6 weeks.

    • paola d

      Hi Betty,
it is unlikely that the amounts, the method and the concentration you are using would have any discernible effect on gut bacteria.

What is most likely is that the symptoms you're experiencing are due to oxalate release. They may feel the same as when taking antibiotics because antibiotic use an lead to oxalate buildup. So both the release and buildup of oxalates can trigger similar reactions which may be wrongly interpreted as die-off.

      Hi Sue,
no, you don't have to avoid sex on the days you do VI.
I don't know why the pain, bloating, and cramping occur. I assume it is because of the gas which is produced when ozone reacts with left-over feces in the colon.
I also get the cramps and bloating. Which is one of the reasons I don't like doing RI.

      Hi Jenny,
if you are doing VI at a safe concentration in the 40 to 60 mcg/ml range, then no, there should be no tissue breakdown. Even at 70 to 80 mcg/ml it should be ok, but I would not go higher than that.

If you do it rectally you need to be careful and look at a timer to not exceed 500ml. So at 1/8 LPM this would be 4 minutes.

I am considering doing VI ozone as a replacement for the expensive IV treatments (200 each). I am using it for the Herpes virus (never had an outbreak, but labs show high antibodies).
Would you expect VI to be as effective or recommend staying with the IV therapy

If you never had an outbreak, then high antibodies could also signify a past infection.

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Roxanna,

you can do VI even after hysterectomy. The ozone by-products will still penetrate the vaginal walls and likely go through the lymphatic system.

If the tenderness is a light form of vulvodynia, then going on a low oxalate diet may help.

    Hi Paola,

I've been doing regular RI and VI at home, and was wondering what is the ideal gamma and flow setting and length of time to do VI and reach say 5000gamma as you would with DIV? Or is this not possible?

    Reply
    • paola d

      Hi Liza,

I think you are confusing concentration with dosage.
Ozone therapy is commonly applied at concentrations between 20 and 70 mcg/ml.
      The dosage during a DIV of for example 60 ml at a concentration of 30 mcg/ml would be 30 mcg/ml x 60 ml = 1800 mcg.

In order to reach 5000 mcg at a volume of 60 ml, the concentration would have to be 5000 mcg/60 ml 0r 83 mcg/ml which is way too high. It is above what is considered safe for ozone therapy.

For VI and RI one uses concentrations of 20 to 50 mcg/ml.

Depending on the volume and duration of the application one can reach total dosages of several thousand mcg this way.

Hello Paola, I am wondering if VI can be as effective in delivering O3 to the blood stream as RI. I've been developing painful gas reactions to RI while VI run very smoothly for me, so I prefer to continue with them. It would seem to me as common sense, O3 would penetrate as well from rectal tissues as through vaginal walls? I've got a variety of viral conditions am currently treating with it. Thank you!

    Reply
    • paola d

      Hi Natasha,
contrary to what most ozone practitioners say, I do not think that RI are a good method to deliver ozone into the blood stream or that they are a good systemic treatment at all. With prolonged treatment one can achieve systemic effects in some conditions, but overall RI are not comparable to intravenous administrations, in my opinion.

VI are in my opinion a better way to achieve systemic effects if done long enough and with high enough volumes. They are also easier to perform and less messy.

Yes, I believe that with prolonged application, the O3 and its by-products is able to penetrate the intestinal walls and probably also the lymph.

“contrary to what most ozone practitioners say, I do not think that RI are a good method to deliver ozone into the blood stream or that they are a good systemic treatment at all. *** This is perhaps the most irresponsible comment that I've seen on ozone therapy.
You should provide scientific or clinic evidence for this “opinion”.
It is obvious to even the most casual observer that O3 is very swiftly and powerfully absorbed by ANY mucous membrane. As evidence I would refer you to your own warning about breathing O3; for anyone who has experienced this, it is clear that ozone gas is IMMEDIATELY absorbed. For some reason the mucous membrane in your colon is unable to absorb while the purity of the vagina can is absurd on it's face. We may not be in the girl's club here, but this post of yours is capable of discouraging men from a powerful alternative approach to healing. Post some evidence or perhaps retract your ill-advised train of thought.

    • paola d

      Hi Sing,

I suggest that you calm down first and stop acting hysterically.

Once you have achieved that, please provide the following:
      1. Please quote the part where I use the term “purity of the vagina” or where I say that an alleged “purity of the vagina” is what makes that orifice absorb ozone well.
      2. Please quote the part where I say that the colon is not able to absorb ozone at all which is what you're implying that I'm saying with your overwrought and misleading comment.

After you have switched your brain back on and reread my page and possibly also watch this video I made on the topic, I suggest you realize that I – unlike people who like to get hysterical online – tend to think in nuances and not in black or white thinking and FOR SURE do not want to discourage 50% of the population to do ozone. What I do want to discourage is people misrepresenting and misquoting what I'm saying.

Also not sure what you mean with “girls club”. For a club to exist it takes more than one person as far as I know.

    Hi!
I had VI ozone today for the first time by a naturopath. I have neuro lyme. He used 3 syringes of ozone via a catheter.
I was lying down for the procedure. When I sat up there was copious fluid on the bed. The doctor didn't know what that it was. It was clear and had no odour. It definitely wasn't urine. What was this fluid that drained out of me and why did it happen?

    Reply
    • paola d

      yes!

    • Christie

      Hi Diane,
I’m not sure I would recommend VI everyday, from what I have seen in many patients, it can dry out the tissues and cause bleeding. Give the tissues a break atleast a couple days a week, and if bleeding occurs, I would stop for a few days and proceed with a reduction in frequency.
Lets remember that VI is also effecting your body’s natural vaginal normal flora. We dont want to kill off everything down there and there is little research as to the effect of VI on your healthy bacteria.
Personally, I would only receive this treatment multiple times a week if I was treating a vaginal infection or disease process, such as cervical cancer.

    • paola d

I don't think I've ever heard someone report bleeding after VI. There may be some blood spots if the walls in the vagina were indeed too dry and some tissue got attached to the catheter.
But this is not something to be really concerned about.
If there is increased dryness one can also use a humidifier.
I have found that VI actually stimulate vaginal secretions.
Also the vaginal flora is a) not as important as intestinal flora. You don't need the vagina for survival, and b) because of how shallow and how easily accessible it is (relative to the intestines), it's really easy to repopulate it. I've had my flora tested after months of doing VIs for sometimes up to 60 min and everything was perfectly fine, the doctor said. This was after around a 1 month brake from VIs.

for systemic ozone is there any information re: rectal vs vaginal insufflation? The info I can find on rectal is that is is 80-90% as effective as MAH. I have successfully completed surgery ( 1 positive lymph node)chemo and radiation for aggressive uterine CA and now want to increase immune system and weaken any possible remaining cancer cells.

      Hi Lia,
there is conflicting information on rectal and vaginal insufflation.
Some allege that RI are a systemic treatment, others doubt it.
The Cubans are big on rectal insufflations and seem to successfully treat a whole range of conditions with it.
Vaginal insufflations are poo-pood by some, and embraced by other ozone experts.
From personal experience I know VI are a systemic treatment, most likely through the lymphatic system.
If I had had treatments for uterine CA, I would most likely concentrate on VI and some form of systemic treatment like ozone IVs at a doctor's or ozone saunas.

Thank you Paola — just found this site again. Started VI and RI at home and have 2 10 pass scheduled starting the first of January. Then plan on doing a series of MAH. Also do some EI for about 2-4 minutes 3-4 times a week.

      Thanks again

What's the ideal position for administering VI? Sitting? Laying down?

I prefer to sit and work on my computer while insufflating. Find the position most comfortable for you.

      Hi Sygun,

how many other ozone generators do you have besides Longevity?

As to get the real facts from the people who sell the stuff – I know exactly what you mean. I went to the Ford dealership and asked them if their cars are the best in the world, they said “of course”. See, that's how I know that Ford cars are the best in the world. You were right, it works!

      Best,
