How to Do Vaginal Ozone Insufflations?

by | Last updated: Mar 4, 2021 | 52 comments

Vaginal ozone insufflations consist of introducing ozone/oxygen gas mix into the vaginal cavity at an ozone concentration of around 40 to 60 mcg/ml.

They are used to treat any type of local problems, like yeast, candida, tumors, or any type of inflammatory conditions.

Vaginal insufflations with ozone gas are also believed to have some systemic effect.

Women report an improvement in mood, cognitive ability, and even digestion after vaginal ozone treatments.

They can be performed either with a bag, a syringe, with or without a humidifier, or directly from the ozone machine.

Here, I will demonstrate direct vaginal ozone insufflations without a humidifier.

I believe that this type of gas infusion is one of the most undervalued ozone treatments.

Which ozone equipment do you need for vaginal ozone insufflations?

  • oxygen source, here I use an oxygen tank and a low flow regulator
  • ozone generator
  • extra long silicone tubing
  • adapter
  • silicone catheter
  • luer lock connector
  • mask / fan
  • at least two towels
  • plastic cover

How to do vaginal ozone insufflations:

Suggested settings

Ozone concentration: 40 to 60 mcg/ml
Oxygen flow: 1/16 to 1/8 LPM
Duration: 10 to 20 minutes

Suggested settings

Ozone concentration:

40 to 60 mcg/ml

Oxygen flow:

1/16 to 1/8 LPM

Duration:

10 to 20 minutes

Learn how to protect yourself from breathing ozone

1. Screw a low flow regulator onto the oxygen tank.

2. Take a piece of silicone tubing, and connect one end to the oxygen tank.

3. Take the other end and push in a luer lock connector.

4. Screw the end with the luer lock connector into the “oxygen in” port of the ozone generator.

5. Connect the ozone generator to the power supply.

6. Connect the ozone generator to the power supply.

7. Take the other end of the silicone tubing and push the adapter inside.

8. Set is aside for now. The adapter is where you will later connect the silicone catheter.

9. Put a piece of plastic cover over where you will sit to perform the vaginal ozone insufflations to protect your furniture from being bleached.

10. Put a towel on top of the plastic.

11. Sit down and introduce the catheter.

12. Introduce it around 3 inches deep, or until you feel resistance. Do not exert too much force, otherwise you will kink it.

13. Connect the catheter with the adapter of the silicone tubing (see picture 8) and cover your lap with a towel.

14. Put the mask on (or if you prefer, a fan in front of you).

15. Open the oxygen tank with half a turn on the valve. Watch the gauge jump up which shows you how much oxygen you have left in the tank.

16. Check the ozone output chart to determine which ozone settings you need, I choose a flow of 1/16 LPM and an ozone concentration of 40 mcg/ml which means I will need to set the first dial on 2 and the second dial will remain off.

17. Open the regulator to the desired oxygen flow, in my case it's 1/16 LPM. Oxygen is now flowing through the ozone generator.

18. Turn the ozone generator on. I set the first dial to 2, the second dial remains off.

19. Relax or read a book. You can start with 10 min, and increase gradually to up to 30 min per day. You may experience some heat or gas escaping which can feel like bubbles. This is normal since the gas is not being absorbed at the same rate as it's being infused.

20. When you're done, turn the ozone generator off.

Join the Telegram Channel

21. First, close the valve of the oxygen tank. Then, watch the gauge go down to zero. You can speed this up by opening the regulator all the way to 4 LPM.

22. Once the gauge has gone down all the way to zero, set the regulator to zero.

23. You can re-use the catheter. Just rinse it out with some warm water after you're done.

Recommended equipment for vaginal ozone insufflations

This is the equipment I used in the pictures above:

  • oxygen source, here I use a CGA 540 industrial oxygen tank and a low flow regulator
  • Promolife Dual Cell ozone generator
  • extra long silicone tubing: how long? So that you can comfortably sit away from the ozone generator, 5 to 6 ft. may be enough, depending how you place your equipment.
  • adapter for the catheter
  • reusable silicone catheter
  • luer lock connector
  • mask (3M model 7502 with filter number 2097), or a fan
  • at least two towels
  • plastic cover, most plastic bags will do.

The Crazy Old Ozone Lady's take on vaginal ozone insufflations:

In my opinion, vaginal ozone insufflations are one of the most underrated and misunderstood treatments in the ozone community. They are either regarded as useless or as a local treatment at best.

Which is unfortunate, since according to my experience they are a great systemic treatment. If done long enough, I believe that they can even penetrate the lower abdomen and help with digestion.

I have also experienced resolution of knee pain, a boost in my mood and mental clarity, and the resolution of influenza infections just from doing vaginal insufflations.

Women who are looking for a systemic ozone treatment at home should give vaginal insufflations a try instead of the rectal route. They are less messy, present no risk of rupturing the colon or anything else, are easier to perform, there is a lesser risk of disturbing the gut biome, and the catheter can be easily reused after a quick rinse with water.

I’m wondering if vitamin e oil after vaginal ozone around the labia would help with the dryness? Would this be safe?

I hope you find this helpful. I will suggest that you do a parasite cleanse with Mimosa Pudica seeds. Ozone will kill some and irritate most but This herb is extremely effective for getting rid of all parasites. I have tried ozone for many years but could not get rid of them until i tried this herb. Now the ozone therapy is much much effective at repairing
the damage left behind by this critters.

Can VI be used for post-menopausal vaginal pain and tightness with intercourse? I've too much pain and don't have a solution. I use ozone quite regularly but not the VI yet.

      Hi Nancy,

I am not sure whether VIs can help in that regard.

There is some research on ozone and oxalates. Reducing oxalates may possibly help: https://myvagina.com/oxalates-and-vulvodynia/

I haven't tried vaginal insufflation, but rectal insufflation, over 3-4 weeks, caused me to bloat and gain weight, even at low amounts. What can I do about this? I would love to use ozone more regularly. I have tried to do an internet search about it but have been unsuccessful. Any ideas would be helpful. I eat mostly whole food diet, drink filtered water. I do have Hashimoto's.

      Hi Michelle,

Stop the rectal insufflations and switch to vaginal instead and see if the problem persists.

Or reduce the RIs to 1 to 2 times a week and supplement with lactoferrin, and soluble fiber.

I am currently embarking on Ozone DIV at an office near me and Vaginal Insufflations at home to treat my HPV 18/45 and HSV 1 and 2. Can you please let me know how often I need to to insufflate and the proper dosages? I have the following equipment:

Dr.O Solutions Ozone Generator 85 Gamma
    Dr. O Solutions Oxygen Regulator
200 ml Syringes (I have two instead of using the insufflation bag)

I am not set up for continuous ozone treatment (with mask sitting there for about 15-20 minutes)
How many syringes can I do in one sitting?
    How many times a week?
Which concentration is best to follow on the generator?
What should my regulator be set to?
What are your thoughts about douching with water before insufflation?

    Thanks for the guidance

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Sunflower,

You can do 4 to 5 syringes in one setting.
You can do it every day.
I would select the 1/4 LPM for oxygen which should give you 33 mcg/ml.
Regulator should be set to 1/4 LPM.
Yes, you can do a water douche before the VI.

      I hope this helps.

I have also heard of an ozone sauna. What are your thoughts about that?

Which system is better, the constant flow (machine running for x amount of minutes with the protective mask) or using several syringes.

Is it a matter of preference, time, space in the home and/or convenience.

Why would someone choose one over the other?

Is there such thing as x amount of syringes are equal to x amount of minutes sitting with the protective mask. Or do they have separate uniqueness in power and effectiveness

If I wanted to move from syringes to the system of continuous flow using the protective mask would that be better or would it be okay with the syringes I have?

Thanking you very much for your help. I want to get well

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Sunflower,

ozone saunas are one of the most powerful ozone treatments in my opinion.

But regarding constant flow vs syringes, I assume this pertains to vaginal insufflations, not ozone saunas? If so, I prefer the constant flow.

I think the main reason why someone would do the syringe method is because this is what is often promoted by ozone doctors who have little experience with vaginal insufflations, and assume they are done the same way rectal insufflations are done.

Yes, you can compare syringes with continuous flow simply by calculating the total ozone volume. So if you do VI continuously at an oxygen flow of 1/8 LPM for 5 minutes, that is 0.125 LPM x 5 min = 1.125 L. If you use a 200 ml syringe to achieve this, then this would be roughly 5.6 syringes full. But I am not sure that this can be transferred 100%, but more or less. So yes, I think the continuous method has an extra benefit that goes above what the syringe method offers. How much that is, I don't know.

What is better for you individually, that's something you need to find out on your own. But in general, I see no problem in switching from syringes to cont. flow.

I hope you will get well soon!

Hello! I'm following up from my previous comment about the burning/irritation. I tried using the catheter instead of the Promolife vaginal insufflation device as you suggested, but it produced the same outcome. I used 1/16 LPM at 30 gamma (setting 1 on my generator) for 3 minutes. I used to be able to go for much longer at higher gamma, so I'm not sure why the sudden change. Any suggestions?

Hi. I have the same problem. I, too, wonder if the gas could be affecting the labia and if the vaseline might help. Please share if so! My other thought, is that it is affecting the microbiome of the entire organ and therefore it wouldn't make a difference. I am so grateful to have found a post on this subject! Girl power.

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Jas,

yes, vaseline may be a solution, but honestly I don't know.
Try it out and see how it goes.
I know some German ozone practitioners use vaseline as a lubricant for ozone treatments, so it should be safe to use. But I don't know if this will work for VI to prevent irritation.
Switching to douches with ozonated water may be also something to try …

I am about to start ozone first time and going to try vaginal. I saw that a bubbler can be used to keep more moist? I bought a bubbler beaker so I have it hooked up. Can anyone comment here on results with the bubbler and how to use it?

    Hello!
I've been doing vaginal insufflations with my Promolife O3Elite generator at 33 gamma (1/8 LPM and setting 3) every few days. I started low and slow and just worked up to 7 minutes. I should also mention I use the Promolife vaginal insufflation kit. Every time I use it lately, I'm getting some pretty severe irritation/burning on the outside – red, inflamed, itchy, burning. I tried going down to 5 minutes at the same settings, but it produced the same results. It takes several days to heal. Any idea what could be causing this? I'm using coconut oil to lubricate the device. Could that be causing the burn? Should I stop doing vaginal insufflations altogether? Should I just back off on length and strength?

For background information, I have Lyme (with coinfections chronic EBV, mycoplasma pneumoniae, histamine intolerance, etc.) and Hashimoto's.

    Thank you!

Thank you! I've tried that, but it seems to happen each time. I will try the catheter instead. What do you recommend using to lubricate it? Also, should I just jump back in to the same strength and time frame, or do you recommend starting low and slow again?

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Tiffany,
you can use any type of ozonated oil, like olive or coconut oil.

    Hello Paola
I’ve been doing vaginal insufflations for Ureaplasma for about 6 months straight everyday now. I use 20 gamma and insert about 200cc of ozone into vagina daily. Also I do 500 cc of 40 gamma ozone into rectum daily. Lately I’ve been having pain in vagina and rectum after I climax (no actual intercourse because of Ureaplasma). It’s Severe cramping pain. It lasts for hours. It seems that when those muscles contract involuntarily I get the cramping afterwards. I read that ozone can destroy the mucous membranes in the rectum and vagina. Have I been doing these treatments for too long? But they really help my symptoms….. am I harming my mucosa? Is that why there is cramping after orgasm? Thank you

    Reply
    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Scared,

I haven't heard that ozone can destroy mucous membranes in rectum in vagina, but would love to read where you have that from.

200 ml for VI is not a lot. With VI you ideally want to use the direct route, not the indirect, which is what you seem to be doing.

Direct means you let the ozone gas flow in continuously for a given amount of time. Start with 5, increase slowly to 20 min at a time.

I'm considering VI, but after doing too much ozone in my sauna and having the worst genital herpes outbreak I've ever had, I'm hesitant to try VI. Can you tell me, is it likely to bring on an outbreak? I've decided to only do the sauna for 5 minutes next time I do it after my rash goes away completely and then up the time over a period of time as I don't want the herpes or the rash to come back again…….talk about uncomfortable!!! And firey!!! Thanks

    Reply
    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Shobhan,

what you're describing sounds like it could be an ozone induced Herxheimer reaction, in which case you want to continue with the ozone treatments during the outbreak, instead of stopping.
If this is the case, then it's best to temporarily endure the outbreak during the continued ozone treatments, until the ozone completely eradicates it.
If it was the ozone saunas which brought it on, then it's also possible that the VI will do the same.

I have Lichen Sclerosus, is ozone helpful for it as well? Also how would I apply if it’s genital? I have an ozone body bag will it help or do i need more centralized? I have cups too. Also what gamma would I use?
Ozone has pretty much eliminated my interstitial cystitis and I thought that was important to mention. Thank you

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Brandie,

Yes, ozone could be very helpful in this regard.

If it's genital, even if the affected area is on the outside, I would still do vaginal insufflations first. Use the settings on this page before the step-by-step process.

Applying ozonated olive oil or other ozone creams can be also effective. I highly recommend the Ozone Elite one in the red tube: https://www.amazon.com/shop/thepowerofozone?listId=1CA82575USRKB

Ozone cupping could also work, but the other two options are easier to perform.

You could also do whole ozone body bag, but connect the ozone output tube to a vaginally inserted catheter while in the body bag. That way you'd trap the ozone right in the area from the inside and outside.

Thank you for sharing your IC success!

Hi Brandie, have you had success with using ozone for the LS? Did you use it externally and cupping, if so what concentration did you use? internally? I have lots of questions. Paola, (have tried submitting this comment a few times, says I am using a vpn when I am not) is there a basis for concern over vaginal flora balance after treatment?

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Kyran,

potentially, there is, but I think vaginal flora can be much easier re-established than colon biome.

    Hi Paola,

I've had bacterial-related vaginal discharge one and off for almost half of my life, and also have Lyme, co-infections, and mold toxicity. According to my last test, it's not yeast or BV, but rather a type of strep bacteria and a type of staph bacteria that are usually neutral for most people, but dysbiotic for some (like me).

I've been doing vaginal insuffulation of Ozone for about 2 months very consistently now, about 20 minutes every other day, and had been doing it less regularly for about 3 months prior. Recently it seems the discharge is getting much worse, and I can't tell if this is a herx effect and it will get worse before it gets better, or if perhaps the ozone is somehow making it worse?

Any insight you can offer/have you worked with others struggling with vaginal discharge? Thank you so much for your time and help.

Thank you for your reply, I didn't receive notification that you had replied. I'm putting it at 1/8 on the oxygen tank and 3 on the ozone machine. Should I adjust this? I've now been doing it for over 2 months every other day for 30-45 minutes. I also started taking vaginal probiotics orally and in suppository form a week ago. The discharge is thick, yellow/cream, and clumpy, and has been seemingly more copious with time. Perhaps I'm just purging and herxing, or maybe I'm making it worse! Any ideas? Thank you so much

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Kate,

have you subscribed to receive notifications?

Which ozone generator do you have? How much ozone does it produce at the settings you select?

I would keep it at 30 to 40 mcg/ml, if you know how to select this on your machine and probably go down to doing maximum 20 min. More than that may be overkill.

How do the VI make you feel, apart from the discharge? Do you get increased energy, or less, or no change?

      Best,

    • Kate

The setting I've had it on is 33, so right in the range you're speaking to. I'll shift down to 20 minutes max. I don't usually feel a huge change after doing the Ozone.

Hello, I am a gynecologist specializing in chronic pelvic pain in US. I would like to use ozone intrauterine, instead of vaginal insufflations for Endometriosis – pre op and post op.

I would appreciate any feedback or recommendations.

      Hi Melissa,

Yes, I would use a small french silicone catheter – if you can find it. 8 fr or 10 fr.

      Concentration: 20 – 40 mcg/ml, 20 cc. At least 3 times a week, or daily.

But: I would rather do vaginal insufflations through the direct route, 10 to 15 minutes per day. It will saturate the whole area including the uterus. And it's easier and the patient can insert the catheter herself.

    Hi Paola!

Thank you so much for your newsletter!
I purchased from Longevity 2 years ago and have only made ozone water because I'm afraid I'll do something wrong. I can barely understand all the equations. 🙁
I also don't have a tank, but instead bought a concentrator which is also from Longevity. It's supposed to be able to make up to a 95% concentration.
My question is: Can I use the oxygen concentrator for other therapies? Dr. Shallenburger in his book says that the only use for the oxygen con. is for water. All other therapies must use the tank.
I think because he says it's pure oxygen. What are your thoughts on this? It would be very difficult for me to get a tank filled.. even industrial.

Do you have any idea what the settings should be? I have a portable steamer and was setting the O2 at 5 but it has settings from 0-5? I'm setting the HTU-500 to 10. Is there a coinciding chart for these machines? Thank you so much.

      Hi Steven,

You need an external low flow regulator for your oxygen concentrator, like this one: https://thepowerofozone.com///PLO2regulatorex

Once you have that you should set the flow at 1/2 LPM (= 0.5) for the steam sauna, if that's what you meant.

I think you can find the chart for the HTU-500 on the page where you bought it …. or you should have received one with the machine?

    Hi PAola!

Chronic Lyme 38yrs, chronic active viral, MCAD, Endometrosis, Intestinal impermeability and other infections (SIBO etc)….

Thank you for your information! I have a question, do you feel it's necessary to wash with ozone water via syringe first? It's one extra step I don't have energy for with chronic illness and I kinda thought all V's have natural lubrication, so washing with water might actually remove this… it was suggested by a man (not to be mean but…) or maybe there is an actual concern of drying out the lining even when run through the humidifier. I'm doing this route since RI isn't possible for me right now but curious if it's common to have pelvic/GI bloat plus aching (which other than monthly torture with endometroisis and ovulation time – don't generally experience to this degree given all other band aids I use). when I do 10 pass I just feel much better for a day or two but is it possible VI can cause herx where 10 pass wouldn't? Just curious if women commonly respond this way with this route. Also BOO doesn't cause any side effects for me.

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Nicole,

no, I don't think it's necessary to wash with water first. I agree with you, all Vs have natural lubrication. I noticed on me that this is also increased by VI.

Yes, it's possible to experience bloating after VI, I have experienced it. I pushed through it and then after around 2 weeks the bloating vanished. But I don't know if that's reproducible in others.

With endometriosis cutting out oxalate rich foods may greatly diminish pain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g_GMQJUntY

And yes, VI could cause area-specific Herxes. I also speculate that ozone in general can help the body to release oxalates, which may explain some of the detox like reactions.

I’ve know Dr Joe from Neighborhood Natural Medicine in New York to treat mysterious chronic conditions that the Western Medicine have gave up on. I was once a patient there myself. I don’t know much about your spine condition but his website might be worth looking into.

    Dear Paola,
Thank you for providing this platform. Two years ago I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and subsequently had a full hysterectomy. I’m now a year post chemo and have introduced ozone sauna 3 x a week using vaginal insufflation method.. I was curious on the benefits of this method in my case considering that I no longer have a womb.

      Hi Gugu,

the hysterectomy should have no relevance for the efficacy of VI.

It's assumed that the ozone is absorbed by the tissue and from there goes into the lymphatic system, extracellular space, or possibly even the blood circulation.

I think doing saunas and VI is a good protocol!

      Keep us posted.

What a terrific resource you are. I have stage 3 Lyme arthritis in both my knees, often causing severe pain especially at night. Would ozone help and what kind . How helpful would an ozone sauna be… wondering if it worth the investment.

      Hi Diane,

thank you for visiting my site!

I think an ozone sauna or ozone body bag could be very helpful.

I would also look into a paleo / keto / carnivore type diet.

Especially with the carnivore diet remissions or complete eliminations of arthritic pain are not unusual.

      Best,
