Micronutrient Supplementation to Reduce Cardiovascular Risk

"β-carotene supplementation increased all-cause mortality (RR: 1.10; 95% CI: 1.05-1.15), CVD mortality events (RR: 1.12; 95% CI: 1.06-1.18), and stroke risk (RR: 1.09; 95% CI: 1.01-1.17)."
Beta-carotene intake was correlated with a higher all-cause mortality, including from cardiovascular disease (CVD), and a higher risk of strokes.
Correlation does not cause causation, but those findings support the outcomes of previous randomization, controlled studies which showed that a group of study participants which was supplementing with beta-carotene had a higher incidence of lung cancer. The study then had to be aborted.
