Isotretinoin (anti-acne drug) causes Crohn's like ileitis

A 17 yo was taking isotretinoin for acne for around 6 months.
Isotretinoin is a vitamin A derivative.
She developed watery diarrhea and intestinal pain that was so intense that she lost consciousness several times (vasovagal syncope).
Endoscopic tests showed ulcers and inflammation in the distal part of her small intestine, similar to what it looks like in patients who suffer from Crohn’s disease.
The isotretinoin had LITERALLY burned holes in her gut.
She stopped the medication and everything returned to normal.
This seems to be the first recorded case of isotretinoin induced ileitis.
Isotretinoin is retinoic acid. Every type of vitamin A, whether from plants, animals, supplements, or medications turns into retinoic acid in our bodies.
