An ozone generator alone is of no use. To be able to perform ozone treatments you will need a combination of the following:
(a) Oxygen source
(b) Ozone generator
(d) Breathing protection
Here is why:
(a) Oxygen: Oxygen is the raw material from which ozone is generated. When you expose oxygen to electricity, you create ozone. Oxygen comes in either oxygen tanks or is produced by oxygen concentrators.
(b) The ozone generator is where the oxygen is exposed to electric energy and is turned into ozone.
(c) The gas is then transported through tubings and other contraptions in order to deliver it into the body part of your choice. Accessories can be anything from connectors to foldable saunas or syringes.
(d) Ozone should never be inhaled. Breathing raw ozone can damage your lungs. It is important to protect yourself from accidental ozone exposure during ozone treatments.
(a) What type of oxygen do I need?
You need either oxygen from an oxygen tank or an oxygen concentrator.
The oxygen needs to be
- of at least 90% purity
- be supplied in low flows of at most 1/8 to 1/2 LPM. (This is achieved with the use of pediatric regulators.)
There are two different oxygen sources which meet these criteria:
1. Oxygen tanks with a pediatric regulator.
2. Oxygen concentrators that produce at least 90% pure oxygen, with an external or built-in low flow regulator.
You can use different types of tanks for ozone treatments.
Medical oxygen tanks can be used for all ozone applications, including injections and IVs.
O2Ready, ultra-high purity, scientific grade, and semiconductor oxygen is of the same or higher purity as medical oxygen.
Industrial oxygen tanks contain oxygen of 96% to 99% purity. They can be used for any ozone application, excluding injections.
Recommended sizes: 10 to 40 CF, or 200 to 1,100 L.

Pre-filled Oxygen Tanks ONLINE
There are several options to buy pre-filled oxygen tanks online from the comfort of your home:

4. Amazon. Amazon has started selling FULL industrial oxygen tanks. It is not clear, what the purity of the oxygen is, but it likely ranges from around 96 to 99%. Industrial Oxygen Tanks – CGA 540
Industrial oxygen tanks hold oxygen of around 96% to 99% purity.
You can buy both full and empty oxygen tanks on amazon, your local welding shop, or gas supplier such as Airgas.
Industrial cylinders can be refilled. Make sure that they have a DOT stamp and meet DOT and/or ISO regulations.
Industrial O2 tanks are equipped with a CGA 540 valve and consequently require a CGA 540 regulator.
Industrial oxygen can be used for all ozone applications, excluding injections.
Important information when buying industrial oxygen at a welding shop:
When buying industrial oxygen for ozone treatments at welding shops, one should be aware of a few things:
- The staff will not be able to answer your questions about ozone therapy. As a matter of fact they may refuse to sell oxygen to you if they learn that you are intending to use it for therapeutical purposes.
- The same applies for pediatric regulators. Welding shops don't sell those. You need to buy them online, see below.
- Anyone can buy welding oxygen. You don't need a permit or a license for it. Consequently, welding shops usually don't ask people questions. But, should this happen, then say either “for my fish tank”, or “my husband/wife/son asked me to get it, I don't know what it's for”.
- Do not mention ozone therapy or the word “therapy” in any shape or form ever.
Pro Tip #1
A good way to keep a chain of custody is to put a sticker on your tank and tell the sales staff that you'd like the same tank back. Do not swap tanks.
Medical Oxygen Tanks – CGA 870
Medical oxygen tanks contain oxygen of at least 99% purity. They are equipped with a CGA 870 valve, and as a result require a CGA 870 pediatric regulator.
You can buy pre-filled medical oxygen tanks online without a prescription and have them delivered to your doorstep.
If you purchase an empty tank, you will need a doctor's prescription to get it filled. If you or a family member have asthma, bronchitis, COPD, emphysema, or any other lung condition, you may get a prescription for oxygen from your doctor.
Some places refuse to fill a medical tank even if you have a doctor's prescription.
Pro Tip #2
If you want to have an empty medical tank filled, find an ozone doctor or ozone dentist in your area and ask if you could have your tank refilled through them. Some are open minded enough to say yes. If you become one of their patients first, then the doctor is more likely to agree to your request.
Other types of oxygen bottles
Other types of oxygen tanks that hold oxygen pure enough to be used for ozone therapy includes: O2Ready oxygen from Promolife, aviation oxygen, food manufacturing oxygen, or Bernzomatic oxygen.
This is another popular source of oxygen. Having an oxygen concentrator means you will never run out of the gas.
Concentrators do not require refills.
They are an ideal solution for ozone saunas or making ozonated oil which require large amounts of oxygen.
Oxygen concentrators can be used for all ozone applications except injections and IVs.
Look for stationary oxygen concentrators which produce oxygen of at least 90% purity at continuous oxygen flows of 1 LPM or below.
Ideal are oxygen concentrators with a built-in low flow regulator for flows of 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 LPM.
If you can't find such a machine, then make sure to get an additional external low flow regulator.
Do not buy portable or pulsed flow concentrators.

New machines require a prescription from your doctor. If you or a family member suffer from a lung condition or sleep apnea, you can ask for a script from your general practitioner.

Refurbished oxygen concentrators
They do not require a prescription and often cost considerably less than new machines. The concentrators have been inspected and if necessary repaired, are in good to very good condition, and often come with a warranty.
Reconditioned oxygen concentrators are a great solution for home ozone users when buying your own ozone set-up.

Used oxygen concentrators:
You can buy used oxygen concentrators on Ebay or Craigslist.
The average life span of an oxygen concentrator are 35,000 hours. Do not buy machines with more than 15,000 hours. Anything below 5,000 hours is worth looking into.
Make sure to test the machine for several minutes. The concentrator should run smoothly, not turn itself off, or have the alarm go off.

Industrial generator vs. generator for ozone therapy: how do I know the difference? (b)
Industrial ozone generators are typically used for applications like home remediation, car odor removal, or swimming pool treatments. They produce ozone amounts which are multiple times above what is produced by therapeutic ozone generators.
An industrial ozone generator should never be used for personal treatments since it can cause great harm.
When buying an ozone generator for personal treatments it's important to be able to distinguish an industrial ozone appliance from an ozone therapy device.
In the chart below on the left side you will find five criteria which every ozone therapy generator must meet.

Which accessories do I need? (c)
Buying an ozone generator for home use includes purchasing the necessary add-ons so that you can perform your preferred applications.
Below you will find the most important attachments and glass ware to be able to perform ear, rectal, vaginal, nasal insufflations, ozone saunas, all forms of injections, breathing ozonated olive oil, ozonate water and oils, do dental treatments and use the body suit.
(1) Breathing ozonated olive oil (BOOO)
Accessories needed: (1a) trap, (1b) oil bubbler, (1c) nasal cannula

The trap protects your ozone generator from oil. Whenever you bubble ozone through oil, some oil travels back through the tubing. Once oil reaches the ozone chamber, the ozone generator can't be reclaimed. A trap is the best way to protect your ozone machine from oil damage.
Gas washing bottles or empty oil bubblers or humidifiers can be used as traps.
(1b) Oil bubbler
The bubbler is a special glass container for the olive oil. In the middle of the container is a stem. When you pour olive oil into the bubbler, the stem should be sufficiently covered by the olive oil. The ozone/oxygen gas mix then travels through the stem and through the oil and bonds with it to form ozonides. The stem of the oil bubbler should NOT have a stone, but one or a few holes instead.
If you decide to use a gas washing bottle as an oil bubbler: suggested size is 250ml.
(1c) Nasal Cannula
The cannula transports the ozonated olive oil into the sinuses. Instead of a cannula you can also use an oxygen mask.
(2) Dental treatments
Accessories needed: (2a) dental handpiece with tip needles and tooth cups

The handpiece allows the dentist to direct ozone to specific areas in your mouth. It can be used either with blunt needles or with tooth cups. Promolife offers a full set of dental accessories.
(3) Ear Insufflations

The trap muzzles the noise of the ozone generator. Without the trap the sound of the generator is amplified by the earscopes. This can lead to ringing in the ears for some time afterwards.
Eearscopes transport the ozone into the ears. They are a sort of modified stethoscope.
(4) Ozone Injections
Ozone can be injected into the muscle (intramuscularly), under the skin (subcutaneously), or into the join (intraarticularly).
Accessories needed: (4a) filter, (4b) syringe, (4c) needles
Attach a filter to the ozone outport of the ozone generator whenever you fill a syringe. The filter removes any impurities and makes sure you inject just pure gas.
Syringes used for ozone injections should be ozone resistant. There are two different solutions for this: a) glass, or b) poly-carbonate syringes with a silicone stopper.
Needles come in different sizes and lengths. The circumference of the needle is given in g, or gauge. It ranges from 34g to 10g, with 34g being a needle with a very small diameter, and 10g a needle with a big diameter. The lengths range from few millimeters to 10 cm or more.
For subcutaneous injections 27g to 30g needles of around 13mm (1/2″) length are used.
Intramuscular injections go deeper and call for a longer and thicker needle. Here typically sizes of 20g to 22g and 40 mm (1.5″) are used.
Intraarticular injections require different sizes and lengths depending on the size of the joint. For knee or shoulder injections 22g and 40 to 50 mm (1.5 to 2″) needles are required.
For smaller joints a 25g and 0.5″ needle can be used. Joint injections should be only performed by medical professionals.
(5) Intravenous Injections
Accessories needed: (5a) filter, (5b) syringe, (5c) butterfly needle
Whenever you fill a syringe you should attach a filter to the ozone out port of your ozone generator. The filter removes any possible impurities and makes sure you don't inject any particulate matter, just pure gas.
Syringes used for ozone injections should be ozone resistant. There are two different solutions for this: a) glass, or b) poly-carbonate syringes with a silicone stopper.
(5c) Butterfly needle
Butterfly needles are used for direct intravenous injections. The buttflies allow the syringe to be fixated on the patient's arm with a piece of tape.
The recommended size is: 27g, 1/2″.
(6) Ozonate oil
Accessories needed: (6a) trap, (6b) oil bubbler, (6a) trap, (6d) destructor

2 x (6a) Trap
When ozonating oils, it's very important to use an empty trap to prevent oil from the oil bubbler from flowing into the ozone generator. Once oil gets into an ozone machine, it can not be saved anymore.
When ozonating oils you also want to use a second trap between the oil bubbler and the destructor to prevent oil from getting into the destructor and clogging it.
Any gas washing bottle can be used as a trap.
(6b) Oil bubbler
The bubbler is a special glass container for the olive oil. In the middle of the container is a stem. When you pour olive oil into the bubbler, the stem will be submerged under the olive oil. The ozone/oxygen gas mix then travels through the stem and through the oil and bonds with it to form ozonides. The stem of the oil bubbler should NOT have a stone, but one or a few holes instead.
When doing BOOO (Breathing Ozonated Olive Oil) the byproduct is ozonated olive oil. Instead of tossing it once it's saturated, you can use it for topical applications.
A destructor neutralizes ozone. After ozonating oil, there is a lot of excess O3 gas. Instead of releasing it into the room, it flows into the destructor where it's eliminated.
(7) Ozonate water
Accessories needed: (7a) trap, (7b) water bubbler, (7c) destructor

The trap protects the ozone generator from backflowing water. Once water reaches the ozone chamber it can cause a short circuit.
Any gas washing bottle can be used as a trap.
An alternative is also a check valve.
(7b) Water bubbler
The water bubbler is a glass container with an ozone inlet and an outlet and a stem with a stone. You pour enough water into the bubbler so that the stem is submerged.
Promolife bubblers come with the destructor already attached to the top of the bubbler.
Gas washing bottles, glass jars, or empty, clean wine bottles can be also used as water bubblers.
A destructor eliminates ozone gas and protects you from breathing it.
You either buy the destructor separately, or you but a Promolife water bubbler with the destructor already a part of it.
(8) Ozone body suit
Accessories needed: (8a) ozone resistant body suit

(8a) Ozone resistant body suit
The suit should be big enough to accommodate the entire body. Everything should fit inside from your feet to the neck. You should wear a towel or a mask in order to prevent the excess ozone from escaping and breathing it in.
(9) Ozone sauna
Accessories needed: (9a) extra long silicone tubing, (9b) sauna tent [or hard shell]

(9a) Extra long silicone tubing
The silicone tubing transports the ozone gas into the sauna tent [or the hard shell sauna].
I recommend lengths of at least 5 ft. The longer the tubing, the more flexibility you have with where you want to place your equipment.
A great diameter size is 3/16″ ID x 5/16″ OD. This fits great with luer, quick, and most other connectors.
(9b) Sauna tent
This can be either a steam sauna, an infrared sauna, a hard shell box, or a sauna dome. What is important it should allow for the head to stick outside to prevent breathing in ozone.
If you decide to go for an infrared sauna, make sure the heating elements are ozone resistant.
(10) Nasal insufflations
Accessories needed: (10a) a syringe
Use either a 20 cc or a 60 cc syringe. Promolife also offers syringe covers which offer additional comfort and hygiene.
(11) Rectal insufflations
Accessories needed: (11a) 200ml syringe, (11b) catheter

(11a) 200 ml syringe
This is the most accurate and the best way to perform rectal insufflations. Another option are bags.
A catheter transports the ozone gas into the colon. Best options are catheters with a luer end. The circumference should be 14 or 16 Fr. and the length at least 6″.

In order to be able to connect silicone tubings with catheters, bubblers, and other accessories, you will need different connectors. The adapter serves to connect catheters with a funnel end with silicone tubing.
Protects you from breathing in excess ozone gas.
A check valve blocks the flow of liquids into the ozone generator. It's a great alternative to a trap.
Syringe filling station
A syringe filling station is great for DIVs: it enables the user to keep the syringe always upright during the filling and so to prevent air from entering. The attached destructor eliminates any excess ozone.
Additional silicone tubing
You will need extra silicone tubing if you're doing ozone saunas, or if you have many different ozone accessories to connect to each other. A great size is ID 3/16″ x OD 5/16″. Gas washing bottles may require bigger tubings.

Tips to save money
1. Buy used ozone equipment
The best place to check for used ozone generators is in the Facebook group The Ozone Group with currently over 11,000 members.
Members regularly post ozone equipment they want to sell. The machines are often in great shape and only lightly used.
In order to have access to the group, you need to apply and answer all three questions. Only then will you be admitted.
Another place to look for used equipment is Ebay or Craigslist where you can find great deals especially for oxygen concentrators.

3. Buy a no-frills ozone generator
Buying a simplified ozone generator is another way to save money. Those are machines like Promolife Mini.
Their ozone concentration is controlled through the oxygen flow, not through a dial knob. They only have an on and off switch.
This comes with a reduced number of options to set the ozone concentration.
Most ozone applications call for ozone strengths in the 20 to 50 mcg/ml range which all of the simple generators offer.
The HTU-500 is also a great solution if you are more of the DIY type.
4. Buy more affordable accessories
For most of the accessories there are more affordable alternatives.
Example: gas washing bottles instead of bubblers and traps. You can buy a gas washing bottle for 1/4 of the price of the more expensive equipment. (You may have to experiment which tubing to buy to fit the outlets.)
Catheters: buying them in bulk from this place for example can push the price down to $0.85 per catheter instead of $2 to $4 at the ozone suppliers.
5. Reuse it
Another solution: sterilize and reuse catheters. Especially catheters used for vaginal insufflations can be easily rinsed out and utilized again.
Catheters which have been used for rectal insufflations, should undergo a more thorough cleaning: some people soak them overnight in 3% H2O2, rinse them out with water really well before re-applying again.
6. Use your creativity – DIY it!
Instead of a water bubbler, just use an empty and clean wine bottle to ozonate water. Or a water jug. Just make sure to leave the room while the water is being infused with ozone.
Use a check valve instead of a trap.
Or simply use gravity and put the container with the liquid well below the ozone generator (I would pair this with at least another method to prevent backflow.)
Or save on both trap and check valve, but make sure that you disconnect everything in the right order: first, turn off the ozone generator, then disconnect the glass ware with the liquid, and as a last step turn off the oxygen. (This is risky. If you forget the right order, it may result in oil getting into your ozone generator after which the machine is useless).
Another solution: use the direct method of doing rectal and vaginal insufflations instead of bags or syringes. Just insert the catheter while it's attached to the ozone generator.
With RI, this direct approach should be only used with very low oxygen flows of 1/16 or 1/8 LPM and you should use a timer to make sure that a certain amount of ozone gas isn't exceeded.

Ozone generator and accessories
The best solution to buying an ozone generator for Europe is to purchase it from one of the North American sellers.
As far as I know, there are no known German or EU based manufacturers who sell ozone machines to the general public.
Ozone therapy is quite popular or it’s gaining in popularity among doctors in many European countries including Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, and Poland, but it’s unheard of for people to treat themselves at home with ozone. Most patients go to their doctor or natural health care practitioner for ozone treatments instead.
Luckily, all the recommended US and Canadian producers of ozone generators are also catering to an international crowd: all their ozone generators run on universal voltage. Check out the online shops of Promolife or SimplyO3.
And all of them offer low flow regulators which fit European and Australian tanks.
Take note that you may have to pay customs fees when importing ozone generators. How much – this depends on the country you’re in.

Just like with Australia and the EU, the best option appears to be buying the ozone machine and the accessories from either Promolife, SimplyO3, or Longevity, all of which have international customer services.
How important is it which materials the ozone generator is made of?
The materials which are used inside the ozone path are very important. Ozone is highly corrosive and it will break down as good as every material. There are just a few exceptions, like: stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, glass, ceramic, silicone, kevlar, and a few others.
Is it important for you to know which of those materials are used in your ozone generator?
In my opinion – no.
Just like you don't have to know all the heat resistant materials a grill is made of before you buy it.
It's enough that the manufacturer knows that. It's clear that no producer of grills will use materials which will be destroyed by heat at the first use of their product.
The same thing applies for manufacturers of ozone generators: it's clear that they will only use ozone resistant materials, otherwise the machine would break down very soon and no one would buy it.
In spite of the obvious logic, I'm aware that the thought may still appear controversial to some.
Many people have bought into the idea that the only acceptable type of ozone generator is one which has an ozone chamber made entirely out of glass (a so called dual dielectric ozone generator). And that ozone should never get in contact with metal, not even with highly ozone resistant metals like stainless steel, titanium, or aluminum.
What few are aware of is that this belief emerged solely thanks to the tireless efforts of the main manufacturer of all-glass ozone generators.
True medical grade ozone generators, so machines like Herrmann, Humares, Ozonosan, or Sedecal (Ozonette), some of which cost up to $15,000, are made of ozone chambers which allow stainless steel and other metals to get in contact with ozone. These machines have to satisfy the highest quality requirements since they’re true medical devices according to European regulations. This means that the manufacturers had to prove that they do not pose a risk to human health.
This fact alone renders the argument of the all-glass purists mute.
All the ozone generators on this list are made of ozone resistant materials.
What about the ozone generators on Alibaba?
On alibaba you can find a whole selection of Chinese ozone generators which cost between $200 and $250. They claim to be medical grade, they have an output chart printed on top according with the oxygen flow, and look like some of the generators sold by US retailers. Looks legit and like a great way to save some money, right?
There is one big problem though: their ozone output charts can’t be trusted.
Here is why you should be careful when buying an ozone generator on alibaba: many of those generators have a chart printed on top which distinguishes between two different oxygen sources: tank and concentrator.
The oxygen purity between an oxygen concentrator and an oxygen tank which is used for an ozone generator should differ at most by 10%. Since oxygen concentrators used for therapeutic ozone generators should put out oxygen of at least 90% purity, and oxygen tanks contain oxygen of at least 99% purity.
Consequently, the ozone output between those two oxygen sources should also vary by at most 10%.
But that’s not the case with the cheap Chinese models.
There, the ozone concentration differs by up to 150% between oxygen concentrator and oxygen tank.
Testing performed by SimplyO3 revealed that those numbers are indeed not correct.
Other ozone machines sold on Alibaba have an output chart which shows one ozone concentrations for pure oxygen source and one for air as feed gas. Which shows that they were not made for therapeutical purposes. Which is fine, only that they are often advertised as medical devices.
Yet other ozone generators claim to have a design “Made in Germany” and engineering “Made in Italy”. Only someone not familiar with the European culture would advertise such a thing. And it shows that the sellers are willing to post no matter what outlandish claim about their machines in the hope of attracting buyers.
Which of those claims is true is for most people impossible to verify.
Cold, hot corona, or UV light: which type of ozone generation is the best?
When reading the technical specifications of various ozone generators, you will find that different manufacturers seem to want to outbid each other in whose machine is the coldest. Every one of them claims to build machines with a cold corona or a true cold corona or the truest cold corona generator ever.
Why is it important whether an ozone generator produces heat or not?
Heat destroys ozone. The hotter an ozone generator gets, the more unstable its ozone output will become. Which means that with prolonged running time the produced concentration will start to decline sharply.
Every type of ozone production generates heat to some degree. There is no such a thing as a completely cold ozone generation.
This is why most manufacturers of ozone machines have found solutions like low ampere, ceramic cells, or fans inside the machines.
Is the type of ozone production important for the outcome of ozone treatments?
No, it’s not. Ozone is ozone, it’s still O3. It does not matter whether it was produced by a corona discharge or UV light as long as it was produced from pure oxygen.
Do oxygen concentrators produce harmful nitrogen oxides?
Some ozone experts claim that one should only use oxygen tanks for the production of ozone and never oxygen concentrators. Oxygen concentrators produce oxygen of around 90% to 97% oxygen. But what are the remaining 3% to 10%? Ozone experts say it’s mostly nitrogen which then converts to harmful nitrogen oxides.
I wanted to find out if that was indeed true and contacted three different producers of oxygen concentrators. Two of them responded. They explained that:
Oxygen concentrators have zeolite filters. The main function of zeolite is to pull nitrogen from the air.
- One said that the remaining 3 to 10% which is not oxygen is a combination of argon and CO2, not nitrogen.
- The other said that the remaining 10% are maximum 5% nitrogen, the rest is argon and CO2.
So is it possible that the maximum 5% nitrogen could cause harm when exposed to ozone?
Unlikely, here is why:
There are three potentially problematic nitrogen byproducts:
1. NOx, which stands for NO and NO2, or nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxygen.
NO plays an important physiological role in our bodies, it’s a vasodilator and neurotransmitter. This is one of the reasons why people take L-arginine which produces NO.
NO and NO2 have been implicated in various health conditions. They are considered part of smog and are taxed or regulated by most Western governments.
After looking in depth into the issue, which included reading studies cited by the World Health Organization in its report on nitrogen oxides, I had to come to the conclusion that there is no evidence to support that NO or NO2 have any negative health impact on humans or animals at levels of 10,000 times of urban NOx levels. There is no evidence that neither NO nor NO2 are harmful to human beings.
In spite of the facts and countless studies which prove that they are harmless or even beneficial         even at multiple times of normal atmospheric levels, governments have nevertheless decided to tax and regulate them.
Together with similar approaches towards CO2  and ground level ozone, all of which are naturally occurring parts of air and are overwhelmingly produced by nature, not humans, this type of government sanctioned and government promoted misinformation serves more to highlight the current Orwellian push towards totalitarianism at the hands of “towering geniuses“, and has nothing to do with the actual risk of those molecules.
2. HNO3, or nitric acid, is a highly corrosive acid that can damage even stainless steel.
Is it then possible that ozone generators which use oxygen produced from oxygen concentrators produce nitric acid?
Here is Jeol Leusink's answer from the company Oxidation Technologies explaining it. His company specializes in the production of industrial ozone generators some of which run on air as feed gas (air contains 80% nitrogen):
“(…) if ozone is produced from air as opposed to oxygen, and that air is not sufficiently dry, then HNO3 can be produced from the nitrogen and hydrogen found within that air.
To eliminate HNO3 production in the ozone generator remove all hydrogen in the air supply by drying the air, or use oxygen feed-gas.
The danger in HNO3 production with an ozone generator has much more to do with the longevity of the ozone generator, and parts in the gas stream prior to the water. The HNO3 production rate is very low, and will not affect the water in any measurable amount. However, HNO3 production within the ozone generator and piping will cause reliability problems very quickly, within weeks, or days of operation.”
The oxygen produced by oxygen concentrators is extremely dry. Concentrators use several air filters including zeolite filters. They extract all humidity from the air, to the point that patients who are prescribed oxygen machines for lung conditions like COPD are instructed to use humidifiers to not hurt their lungs.
Conclusion: There are no harmful nitrogen byproducts generated during the production of ozone with oxygen from oxygen concentrators.
On a personal note:
