Five Ways to Get the Most Out of Ozone Therapy

by | Last updated: Jul 29, 2019 | 13 comments

If you are getting your ozone fix from your doctor, or if you like to go on ozone retreats you want to do it in a way so that you’ll get the most out of it. After all, ozone can cost a lot of money. It’s not unheard of to spend 10s of thousands of dollars on 10 passes or trips to ozone clinics in the Mediterranean. But even if you do it at home, ozonating oneself can be time consuming, so you want to be sure you’re doing it right.

Which is exactly what this article is for: making sure that you’re getting the most bang for your buck when it comes to ozone.

#1 Way to get the most out of ozone therapy: Diet

Ozone mainly works by removing inflammation. The longer you can make that inflammation stay gone the more will you benefit from your ozone treatments.

Especially when treating conditions like arthritis, psoriasis, Multiple Sclerosis or a host of other inflammatory conditions, the gains that you will see from ozone may be minor or short-lived if you keep eating pro-inflammatory foods at the same time.

Even if you see a big positive change in your well-being from ozone, as soon as you indulge in some sugary snacks, the symptoms will likely come back. So diet is the number one factor to make the most out of your ozone treatments.

Which diet is the best to keep inflammation down?

In my opinion that’s the carnivore diet. So a diet which consists of eating only meat.

Burgers and sprats. On the carnivore diet you can eat everything from the animal kingdom: all meats, fish, seafood, dairy, and eggs. There are people who don't eat dairy since they feel it contributes to inflammation, weight gain, and addiction. Some people also abstain from eggs. Another subgroup eats only and exclusively beef.

I know, it sounds crazy, but crazy is what I specialize in, plus if you go to meatheals.com or check out Facebook groups like “World Carnivore Tribe” or “Zeroing in on Health” or “100% carnivore and beyond” you can read stories after stories after stories of people who have eliminated conditions like chronic joint pain, Irritable Bowel syndrome, colitis, or Multiple Sclerosis.

Check out my two interviews with Raenn and Emily who reduced their MS symptoms to nearly zero by going carnivore.

The next best diet after that is the ketogenic diet.

And the one after that is the paleo diet. Look at Gary’s story as an example.

But even doing something as simple as cutting out sugar and gluten can have a dramatic impact on one’s well-being.

A low oxalate diet is in my opinion another approach which can help you deal with ozone therapy better.

Oxalates are tiny crystals contained in all plant foods. Some foods have a lot of them, like for example spinach, chard, or nuts. Others, like for example white rice, contain very little oxalates. Animal foods and fish contain no oxalates at all. The crystals can lodge themselves in essentially every body tissue, like joints, thyroid, blood vessels, and the brain, and cause all sorts of problems.

Oxalates can cause inflammation, pain, irritation, can disrupt important bioelectric processes, can produce kidney stones, and calcifications throughout the body.

I have the strong suspicion that ozone therapy is able to remove oxalates. I think that this may explain many Herxheimer reactions we observe after ozone, like the extremely itchy rash people get after ozone saunas but not after regular saunas. I also assume that the discomfort experienced by some women after vaginal ozone insufflations can be due to a release of oxalates.

I believe that lowering one’s oxalate burden by going on a low oxalate diet can lead to having less uncomfortable Herxheimer reactions and being able to shorten the time and reduce the number of ozone applications.

The website lowoxalate.info contains lists with high and low oxalate foods.

If you go on a low oxalate diet for a month before flying to your Mediterranean ozone spa you will probably get more out of it.

Be it the carnivore, keto, paleo, or a sugar/gluten-free diet – changing what you eat can be the single most powerful intervention you can do in the fight for good health. Combining the right diet with ozone can in my opinion supercharge your experience and make sure you get the most out of your ozone investment. It may be even the deciding factor whether ozone therapy will be a success in your case or not.

There were no good free pictures for IVs or drips, so I took this one. It symbolizes Vitamin C. Brilliant, ey? [Pic from Pixabay]

#2 Way to get the most out of ozone therapy: Don't do vitamin C IVs or glutathione IVs together with ozone

My suggestion may surprise you, since many ozone doctors say exactly the opposite, claiming that adding vitamin C or glutathione IVs enhances the treatment.

Me, on the other hand, I say that’s bogus. Giving a potent antioxidant after ozone will result in a lessening effect of the ozone treatment.

Now who to trust: a crazy ozone lady on the internet or your doctor with 10 years of medical school and 20 years of experience?

If you’d rather go with your doctor, then you may skip this point. If you’d like to hear what the Crazy One thinks, here it is:

So let’s go one by one through the things ozone doctors say to sell their patients on additional IVs:

Claim 1 your doctor makes: “Vitamin C IV is a pro-oxidant. So the vitamin C does not eliminate ozone, it enhances the oxidative effect.”

Fact-check number I: Vitamin C is often given when someone has an adverse reaction to ozone. It’s also given when people feel like they overdosed on ozone which shows itself in an uncomfortable lung sensation. What does the doctor do in such a case? She administers a vitamin C infusion. This reliably stops any adverse reactions in their tracks. Reliably and reproducibly. That’s also one of the reasons why ozone doctors keep vitamin C handy.

Fack check number II: doctors claim they give vitamin C for it to scoop the die-off after ozone. So does vitamin C attenuate ozone’s effect or does it add to ozone's oxidative actions? If vitamin C IVs were only pro-oxidative they should add to ozone's kill-off, not scoop it up. But that's not what doctors observe. What they observe is an attenuating and calming effect after vitamin C IVs, so it’s clear that there is a counteraction to ozone happening. But many doctors won’t admit this, why would they? It pays them to talk about “scooping up effects” and giving explanations about how vitamin C reduces the ozone induced Herxheimer reaction. But that's not really what happens. since the vitamin C just neutralizes the ozone, hence there is no ozone induced Herx to begin with.

Fack check number III: Vitamin C IVs are often given together with ozone IVs to make veins last longer. Why is that? Because ozone can damage them due to oxidation. This is especially true for DIV where phlebitis is common, but also for other ozonated saline drips or the 10 Pass. Vitamin C will counteract the oxidation and the veins last longer.

Claim 2 your doctor makes: “I’m getting very good results when I combine them. I don’t see a cancelling effect.”

Fact check: Vitamin C IVs alone can have tremendous health benefits. There are reports about people who were in intensive care units with sepsis, deadly infections, and even some malignant issues. Their health was turned around by giving them vitamin C intravenously in high dosages. There was no ozone involved. And they recovered from the most life threatening conditions.

So even if vitamin C cancels out all the ozone during an ozone treatment, you can still receive a huge benefit. From just the Vitamin C alone. So the fact that a doctor sees great outcomes when giving patients both does not exclude the possibility that one of them cancels out the other.

Same thing with glutathione IVs and ozone. Some people swear by the glutathione fix. Can’t live without it. They feel like it turned their life around. So the fact that a doctor sees a great outcome after a glutathione and ozone combo, does not negate the possibility that one of them cancels out the other.

With glutathione IVs you get another problem though, and that’s the possibility of profoundly troubling side effects. Some people report crushing fatigue, bad nerve pain, debilitating migraines, or the feeling of dying after the IV. It’s assumed that this is because glutathione is able to move mercury around.

Getting glutathione IVs is a bit like playing Russian roulette. The high when you survive it can be great. The crash if you happen to catch the bullet can be devastating. But don’t hold your breath for your doctor to admit that bad reactions occur after glutathione. Him getting paid depends on not acknowledging certain things.

Claim 3 your doctor makes: “I’ve been doing this for 400 [or insert your favorite impressive number] years and I can quote some fancy biochemistry to prove that Vitamin C does not cancel out ozone.”

This is something that Dr. Frank Shallenberger likes to say. And for many people that clinches the deal. If Dr. Shallenberger says so, it has to be right. I mean, didn’t he come out of his mother’s womb holding an ozone generator? Plus, he can quote some complicated sounding molecules which I don't even know what they are.

Fact check 1: Observation trumps theory, no matter how fancy the theory sounds, how many years of experience the man has who makes the claim, and no matter what arcane terminology he uses. The observation is still that vitamin C IVs reliably and reproducibly stop ozone adverse effects in their tracts.

Another fun fact: There is a certain famous ozone doctor (this may have something to do with what I wrote above, but I'm not gonna name names because you know, law suits) who is currently militantly opposed to DIV, but in the past he used to practice DIV himself. DIV is the practice of injecting ozone directly into the vein. He justifies his present opposition among others by spreading debunked rumours about it. But when he was still practicing it, he liked to give patients a glutathione push at the same time as the ozone IV. What was his explanation for it? The glutathione would prevent phlebitis, he said. Phlebitis is inflammation of the vein and it often occurs after DIV because of the oxidation. You administer a strong antioxidant like glutathione right afterwards and the oxidation will be stopped and the phlebitis is prevented. Straightforward and logical. So he would apply glutathione for its ozone cancelling properties, but then he’d turn around and give similarly fancy biochemical explanations why glutathione does not cancel out ozone. I mean, you can’t make this up.

So, if you want to get the most bang for your buck, do not do ozone and potent antioxidants on the same day. Either alternate them on different days, or allow at least several hours to pass between them.

I would allow for one exception: If you have booked a two month ozone retreat with daily scheduled ozone treatments and if giving you small amounts of vitamin C will ensure that your veins stay healthy for the duration of the treatments so that you can get your money's worth of ozone treatments. In this case the small neutralizing effect of the vitamin C may be worth keeping your veins cooperating for the length of your stay.

Try doing your ozone treatments one close to the other as much as possible.

#3 Way to get the most out of ozone therapy: Do ozone treatments closely together

Don’t allow for a lot of time to pass between single ozone appointments. In most cases, it’s better to do more ozone in a given amount of time than to put in longer breaks.

So, in general it’s better to do 2 or 3 or more applications per week than to do them once a week or even once a month.

Doing ozone once a month probably doesn’t really qualify as a therapy but more as a past-time activity.

If you do allow for a lot of time to pass between single ozone visits because you feel that that’s how long it takes for you to get over what you assume is a Herxheimer reaction then what you may be really going through is an adverse reaction to ozone, not a Herx. It could be that ozone is simply not the right treatment for you.

Especially with intravenous ozone applications Herxheimer reactions either don’t happen at all or are very mild. Although, there are exceptions. As always.

For those who do well on ozone, programs like the ones offered by various ozone clinics in Cyprus where you pay a lump sum of several thousand dollars and get daily ozone treatments for a month or two can be a very good idea. It appears that once ozone starts a certain healing or immune modulating process, it's more beneficial to keep at it in an intensive manner than do disjointed treatments which are spaced apart by weeks or months. Which is why ozone retreats often deliver great results.

But sometimes people come back from their Mediterranean ozone vacation and see their health gains evaporate within a few weeks.

In that case, either find a local ozone doctor and get some regular maintenance IVs, or do it at home.

Which brings us to:

Example of a home ozone sauna set-up.

#4 Way to get the most out of ozone therapy: home ozone treatments

Many people underestimate the various possibilities to ozonate one’s body at home. Which is a shame. Getting your own ozone set up is one of the best ways to get the most out of ozone. If you benefited from ozone treatments you received at your doctor’s office, then chances are excellent that you will also benefit from the ozone protocols you can do at home. But at the fraction of the cost and you can do them as often as you like. You're independent.

A complete home unit can cost from around $1,500 to $2,000, although you can also spend more, if you want to. But already around $1,200 are enough to set you up with a simple ozone machine plus oxygen and it’s what you may pay at some doctors for a single ozone treatment.

Having your own ozone gear allows you to take part in such fun activities like shooting ozone up your bum, or up your vajayjay, blasting it through your brain via earscopes, or doing the ozone sauna.

Especially the latter option is a great way to treat oneself in a systemic fashion. It is probably one of the most underrated ozone applications but possibly even more powerful than certain ozone IVs, and it does not require needles, drips, or the presence of a doctor. And that saves money. Major money.

If you’d like to inform yourself about which ozone machines there are available, you've come to the right place. Because here I present the most popular ozone generators.

Electricity can be beneficial for us. Getting hit by lightning is not, though, so don't get any ideas. [Pic by Kevin Phillips, Pixabay]

Bonus #5 Way to get the most out of ozone therapy: PEMFs

PEMFs appear to work synergistically with ozone. So if you want to turbo charge your ozone experience, PEMFs may be the way to go.

PEMF stands for Pulsed Electro Magnetic Frequencies. They are part of a branch of medicine which deals with bioelectricity and bioelectromagnetics, or the fact that our cells produce electric and electromagnetic fields and currents.

There is a wide variety of machines which claim to have therapeutic effects by subjecting the human body to various forms of electricity, electric or electromagnetic fields.

Some assume that disease starts with our cells losing their electrical charge. PEMF machines are supposed to re-establish that charge and as a consequence re-store health.

And there is some research which seems to support the idea that electric fields are beneficial for us. For example during electroconvulsion therapy one subjects the patient's brain to electrical current. This apparently can cure depression in up to 50% of cases.

Several recent studies in both humans and rats have shown that wounds exposed to electric fields heal in around 3 days instead of 2 weeks.  [LINK] [LINK] [LINK]

PEMFs have been shown to significantly reduce tumor size in several rat studies. The same electromagnetic therapy led to a reduction in tumor growth in a few human cases. [LINK]

Ozone is electrically charged oxygen. Could it be that ozone therapy works because it supplies us with beneficial electricity? Is it possible that PEMFs and ozone therapy enhance each other? I think so. Or at least that’s what some anecdotal evidence suggests. And there is at least one company which takes advantage of this: HOCATT. They produce high end ozone saunas coupled with carbonic acid. Some models also add PEMF to the mix. So while you're getting your transdermal ozone fix, you can enjoy beneficial PEMFs at the same time.

How to get PEMF? There is a wide variety of different options. Some report success with small and affordable machines which one can buy for less than $50 on amazon, others swear by more sophisticated equipment which can cost over $20,000 and are mostly used by licensed professionals.

I have an ozone setup and iMRS setup to use together for chronic health issues. I have read so much conflicting data about protocols and contraindications of herbs and other things not to take with ozone insufflations. The thing is, I am dealing with a viral infection that is said to have been cured hundreds of times in the USA by administering ozone 4 times per day. The issue is that no article ever gives any real details about exactly what was done or how it was done beyond the gamma used due to legal ramifications. I took a break from my antiviral herbs 2 months ago for only 3 weeks to do a 2 day fast and 3 days of ozone therapy once a day only to end up with a nasty outbreak of the shingles. I am reluctant to stop taking the herbs again due to the big risk of this or something worse occurring again but I want to use ozone to its maximum potential if it can really cure me. I am not using any antiviral drugs at all. My blood count is quite low, though, so it is imperative that I do everything with caution and intelligence with clinical scientific support for every decision I make to avoid making a wrong decision that could lead to my death. I would appreciate any recommendations and advice you may wish to offer. I am also a researcher, certified in functional medicine, and I am interested in helping others with similar health issues once I find true, authenticated answers that can help. I also am able to supply health-promoting equipment to those in need of proven ways to assist in healing the body as I am getting my start in partnering with several companies that sell products which I'm currently using with incredible success and are validated through proper scientific proof to their effectiveness.

I absolutely love the iMRS PEMF kit. I use it 2x daily for an hour each time to regulate systemic pain after having the shingles 3 times with permanent nerve damage. When I first got it 2.5 years ago, I was suffering really badly from lymphadema which was causing my joints to become so inflamed I could barely walk down the hallway to the bathroom without leaning against the wall along the way. It was also causing my feet to swell up to the point of not being able to put on shoes and they were turning black and peeling from lack of circulating oxygen. It completely freaked my wife out at the time when she saw what was happening to my feet. After only 2 times using the full body mat, my pain was 80% gone and my color returned to normal along with the excess fluids dissipating very rapidly to allow me to walk like normal by the second day. It helps me to sleep better every night and has so many other scientifically proven and FDA verified benefits according to scientific studies that I would highly recommend this machine to anyone and everyone. My wife passed away 2 years ago, but now my girlfriend is using it for headaches, lower back pain from adrenal stresses and other PMS symptoms with obvious success. There are more details at this website if you want to look into it further. It is a gentle but powerful and effective machine that I can never say enough about to do it justice. It has been like a miracle in my life. https://doctorthyself.swissbionic.com/en/

      Hi Rick,

I know someone who has seen pretty decent results in pain reduction with this little gadget: https://amzn.to/2NH7mYX

But he needed to keep re-applying it.

Promolife has also this collection of PEMF devices: https://thepowerofozone.com///ch85

I highly recommend the iMRS machine combo. You can see more details in my comments below. It has done far more for my health than I ever would have expected over the past 2.5 years.

i do two coffee enemas a day, which, according to dr max gerson, cause the body to produce glutathione s transferase. i also drink one 8oz citrus juice first thing, and then 4 carrot apple juices throughout the day, as per the gerson therapy.
you say to avoid glutathione – does this apply to the above?
carrot juice is a high antioxidant – you say to avoid antioxidants – does this apply to carrot juice?
also, my naturopath told me to take an antioxidant, like vit e, for instance, 2 hours after my rectal sufflation. is this in conflict with your recommendations?

      Hi Anurag,

I don't think there is convincing evidence that coffee enemas indeed raise GST to any significant degree.
Apart from the citrus juice, I don't see the other juices as contraindications for ozone therapy.
If you do ozone an hour after the citrus juice, that should be ok as well.
Vit E does not have any impact on reactive oxygen molecules it has been found. So this is one antioxidant which does not pose a conflict for ozone therapy either.

HellI. Thank you for all the helpful information. What do you think of taking glutathione as a supplement liposomal 500mg while doing ozone at home 200 ml once or twice per day? Or would you suggest avoiding glutathione all together? Thank you.

      Hi Tawny,

I don't think that taking glutathione orally is a good idea since it will be broken down in your intestine.
Oral glutathione has no influence on the blood levels. And it tends to be quite expensive.

    Thank you Paola!

You just aroused my interest in the carnivore diet.
So I read a bit more about it, and now I got the impression that it alone would solve my health issues (basically a weakened immune system – Lyme, probably Epstein-Barr etc.).
Now I wonder whether it will still make sense to do any ozone treatments.
As you are familiar with both, what do you think about this?

    Many thanks in advance!

      Hi Vital,

what you can do is give the carnivore diet a try of 30 days. If you see some major positive changes in that time, then ozone may not be needed.
Although, I'm not sure the carnivore diet alone can help with EBV. With that it probably would still be a good idea to do some ozone.

      Best,

the fact that you suggest a carnivore diet tells me you are really on the search for health, no propaganda. Respect

To add to the ozone experience; I have an ozone aromatic steam room. I find that steam and essential oil aromatherapy ameliorate and temper the irritating factor and make it possible to breathe ozone almost indefinitely, till one feels full, just as one would from food or drink. My friend, Jim Brown, one of the worlds ozone experts, set up my ozone steam room 25 years ago. I have had thousands use it, including world champion athletes, no adverse side effects. Jim just passed on and he will be missed for his good cheer, his courage, his expertise and compassion, traits all those in the healing arts should have.
