How Much Does Ozone Therapy Cost?

by | Last updated: Jan 30, 2020 | 33 comments

If you're planning on using ozone to treat a health condition, you want to know how much money you will need to spend. Unfortunately, most ozone practitioners do not display the prices on their websites. So, I decided to email and call them to find out exactly how much they charge. I also posted questions in our Facebook group to get answers from patients about how much they paid. Here is what I learned about how much ozone therapy costs:

Prices for ozone therapy vary wildly: intravenous ozone treatments cost from $100 to $1,200, ozone injections into joints (prolozone) cost between $30 and $350, dental ozone treatments between $80 and $200, and ozone saunas between $30 and $180.

The differences in prices depend on the location of the doctor’s office, the type of ozone treatment, and how much in demand the health care provider is. Medical doctors tend to charge more than naturopathic practitioners. Offices in more remote locations have on average lower prices than places in more populated areas.

Here, the details:

How much does prolozone therapy cost?

Prolozone injections are one of the least expensive when compared to other ozone treatments but they have some of the biggest price differences. Knee injections tend to cost less than hip injections. A place in Nebraska charges $20 to $30 dollars per ozone injection. A sought after ozone doctor in Nevada asks $350 for the same procedure.

A place in Denver does the injections for $42.

Most doctors also charge a first consultation fee which can range from $75 to $500.

More than 10 years ago, I paid $25 for one knee injection at a doctor's office in upstate New York plus $200 for the consultation.

How much does intravenous ozone therapy cost?

There are many different types of intravenous ozone treatments, for example:

  • 10 pass
  • multi-passes
  • major autohemotherapy (MAH)
  • ozonated saline
  • direct intravenous ozone injections (DIV)
  • extracorporeal blood oxygenation and ozonation (EBOO)

Additionally, some doctors offer their own specialized versions of ozone IVs, like chezone (chelation and ozone IVs), DIV combined with a saline drip, or multi-passes combined with ultraviolet blood irradiation (UVBI).

Most doctors will require a consultation before booking your first ozone IV. This may include laboratory tests or dark field microscopy. The prices for the first doctor visit can range from $75 to $500.

One doctor's office in Florida I talked to was willing to waive the consultation for patients with prior experience with ozone therapy.

Here I’m listing the most popular intravenous ozone treatments, with prices ranging from the highest to lowest:

How much does 10 pass ozone therapy cost?

The 10 pass is the second most expensive intravenous ozone therapy in the US (EBOO being the most expensive). A few years ago the average price for one 10 pass was around $1,000. Since then, they have gone down to around $600, with some practitioners charging $400 per infusion. Most doctors sell 10 passes in packages of 10 or offer special deals.

Dr. Alexander Haskell in Utah charges $400 for one 10 pass.

How much do multi-pass ozone treatments cost?

Many doctors give patients the option of doing lesser number of passes, instead of doing the whole 10 right away. They then charge per pass for each additional pass.

Multi-passes of often have a starting price with the per pass price for each added pass ranging from $50 to $150.

How much does major autohemotherapy (MAH) cost?

This standard ozone treatment is now also called a “single pass” and costs from $135 to $325. Most doctors charge $160 to $185 per IV plus the first consultation.

An ozone clinic in Colorado's capital charges $130 for one MAH, or $190 if you combine it with UVBI (ultraviolet blood irradiation).

How much do ozonated saline IVs cost?

More and more doctors are offering ozonated saline IVs. The prices range from $135 to $300 per drip.

How much do direct intravenous ozone injections cost (DIV)?

Doctors who offer DIV don't like to advertise it.

A known ozone doctor on the East Coast charges $110 per direct intravenous injection or $1,100 for a package of 12 treatments.

How much does EBOO ozone therapy cost?

EBOO stands for “extracorporeal blood oxygenation and ozonation” and has been popularized by Ed McCabe. In the US, it's the most expensive ozone treatment.

The Detox Life in Arizona asks for $1,500 for one EBOO session.

At The Bio Sanctuary in Texas, one EBOO costs $1,800 – if you qualify for it. Not everyone does, says the clinic's medical director. If you don't, she may suggest to go for the Bio Clear 7 day preparatory cleanse which builds you up for the EBOO and includes many other IVs. The whole package runs at $5,900.

A patient receives major autohemotherapy (MAH) during an ozone course in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

How much does dental ozone therapy cost?

Many biological dentists use ozone as part of their standard treatments and don’t charge for it separately. They offer ozonated water as an oral rinse before a dental treatment or during a cleaning procedure.

Cavitation surgery is another intervention where ozone is regularly used. Dentists apply ozone to sterilize the wound and improve wound healing. The price for the ozone is usually billed as part of the whole procedure.

Ozone injections around a tooth cost from $100 to $135 per area to be treated.

Trays are another dental ozone treatment many holistic dentists offer. The custom made trays cost $800 plus around $100 per ozone treatment.

Some dental health care providers also offer periodontal, ear, or nasal insufflations with one dentist in Indiana charging $100 to $120 per treatment.

Is ozone therapy covered by health insurance?

In the US, ozone therapy is not covered by health insurance. You will have to pay for it out of pocket.

Exception: workers in Southern California can sign up with SIMNSA and go across the border to Mexico to get medical treatments including ozone therapy.

In Spain, the health insurance AXA covers the cost of ozone therapy if it's used to treat pain.

In Germany certain private health insurers reimburse the cost of ozone treatments up to around $300 per year.

How much does ozone therapy cost in other countries?

Ozone therapy is practiced all over the world and the prices are often considerably lower than in the US.

Here a few examples:

The actual prices will differ depending on the current exchange rate.

Europe: Dr. Johann Lahodny, the inventor of the 10 pass currently charges €150 (US$165) per 10 pass, €250 (US$275) per 20 pass, and €100 (US$110) per 2,000 ml rectal insufflations. The first consultation, which includes the diagnosis, costs €50 (US$55) .

The Y/Ozono clinic in Spain offers 10 passes for €200 (US$222) and DIVs for €50 (US$55).

Asia: There are clinics in India which charge between US$82 to US$150 for one EBOO. A place in Indonesia asks US$ for the same procedure, and a clinic in the Philippines asks for US$ 120. You can find their addresses here.

South America: A doctor in Medellin, Columbia, charges $163 for an entire 10 pass and $30 for one DIV.

Canada: A place in British Columbia asks US$266 (CAD350) for one 10 pass plus around US$65 for the first consultation.

Example of a home ozone setup for an ozone sauna: oxygen concentrator, an external low flow regulator, an ozone generator, and a sauna tent with the steamer pot.

How much does ozone therapy cost when done at home?

An ozone setup for home use can cost between $900 to several thousand dollars. On average people spend around $1,500 to $2,000 which includes the cost of oxygen.

The running costs are minimal: catheters cost $0.85 apiece if bought in bulk, an oxygen tank refill costs between $10 and $30 and can last several months.

      HI Janet,

what type of injections are you referring to? Intravenous or local into the gums?

If intravenous, they can be done daily, depending on the patient's response and veins.

Into gums, also potentially daily, also depending on the response. One needs to watch for inflammation caused by ozone. If there is none, it means one can continue with the injections.

      Hi Cassi,

I asked a former patient of his some time ago, but it seems the doctor does not want to have the publicity.

But it should be able to find him through Google ….

Dear Dr. Paoloa: I missed you and your wonderful suggestions and sense of humor. For some reason your emails stopped coming…Two questions: 1) How much do practitioners generally charge for ozone bagging of wounds? 2) Where can we get proper instruction on how to use the Hemealumen. Plus what each color light is used for, etc? Thank you! Michael Boxenbaum

      Hi Michael,

the last newsletter came out around 1 week ago … that's how often I send it out more or less. Check your spam, maybe that's where they landed.

      1) I don't know …. but why don't you contact some of the practitioners mentioned in the article and ask? But I would not expect it to cost more than $100 for a session, hopefully less ….

      2) Sorry, I have no experience with the Color light therapy …

      Hi Helen,

Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone in Manitoba who offers EBOO …

What type of ozone therapies were you thinking about doing on your own? Invasive (with a needle) or non-invasive (insufflations, water, sauna, etc.)?

    Hi Paola,

I was interested in consulting with a doctor in British Columbia about MAH and 10-pass treatment. Could you provide me with the the name of the clinic in British Columbia that offers 10-pass Ozone at the prices you mentioned in the article? Thanks for researching this info and sharing with us.

Thank you for your awesome information. I have 2 questions, please.

I still have EBV decades later and feel fatigued. We live 4 hours north of Toronto. There is an MD en route to there and 10-pass ozone therapy at that clinic is $600. Are you aware of any place in Ontario that's more reasonable?

Or failing that, we would do rectal ozone insufflation at home – would that work as well for addressing EBV as 10-pass ozone therapy?

    Reply
    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi RG White,

I do not know anyone in Ontario off the top of my head. Have you tried to run an internet search?

For EBV I would not primarily focus on RI, I would rather do some stronger systemic treatments like ozone sauna or ozone body bagging, or any type of ozone IV. I don't think it needs to be the 10 pass.

Also a change in diet to a low carb meat based diet could potentially help a lot.

Hi Paula, I love all your information! I heard Dr. Brownstein's talk on ozone that he's doing in his clinic. I'm strongly considering a home unit. I did see you mention a doctor in Denver who is reasonably priced. I would like his (her) info if possible. I have Epstein Barr and have been struggling with energy badly. I really think ozone could help me….. what are your thoughts?

Does ozone therapy help with nerve damage from a knee replacement.? I still have swelling too for 6 years now. Infection has been ruled out.

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Deb,

nerve damage can be a hit or miss with ozone therapy, but I would give ozone saunas a try first.

      Hi shanakay plummer,

I recommend to first look into a low or zero carbohydrate diet. For ozone therapy: it depends what type of treatments you are interested in: at home or at a doctor's?
