What is Ozonated Olive Oil?

Ozonated oil is oil which has been infused with ozone. It is rich in ozonides, molecules which are formed when ozone bonds with oil. Ozonated oil can have various consistencies: from liquid to a vaseline like paste.

What Equipment Do You Need to Make Ozonated Olive Oil?

In order to be able to make ozonated oil, you need:

oxygen + ozone generator + trap + oil bubbler

ozonated oil

Oxygen source: Either an oxygen tank or an oxygen concentrator can be used. Given that ozonating oil can take up to several weeks (depending on the desired ozone saturation and consistency of the end product), the amount of oxygen can be substantial. For that reason oxygen concentrators have an advantage over oxygen tanks since they never run out of oxygen and do not need to be refilled. Oxygen flows of 1/2 LPM are adequate.

Oxygen concentrator: Most oxygen concentrators will allow for flows of 1/2 LPM. A low flow regulator is not necessarily required.

Oxygen tank: It's not really a good idea to use an oxygen tank since it would require constant refills, unless one is aiming for a lightly ozonated oil. A low flow regulator is not required, flows of minimum 1/2 LPM are enough.

Ozone generator: It should be a generator which uses ozone resistant materials, can be fed oxygen from an oxygen concentrator or an oxygen tank, and can produce high ozone concentrations.

Accessories: 1) trap or check valve. A trap is preferable, which is usually an empty humidifier. 2) Oil bubbler: this is a glass container which allows for ozone to be bubbled through oil. It should not have a bubbling stone since the oil would clog the pores. If an oil bubbler with a destructor is used, it's advisable to also use a trap between the oil bubbler outlet and the destructor, otherwise oil could enter the destructor and render it useless.

How Do You Make Ozonated Olive Oil?

For detailed step-by-step instructions visit this page

Suggested settings:

Oxygen flow: 1/8 to 1 LPM or more

Ozone concentration: maximum ozone concentration of your generator

Duration: several days up to 2 weeks of continuous ozonation

For an overview of the different connectors and tubing, please go to How to connect ozone equipment.

Take some tubing and connect the oxygen output (from either tank or concentrator) with the oxygen inlet on the ozone generator. Take a separate silicone tubing and attach one end to the ozone generator's “ozone out” outlet, the other end to the trap inlet (be careful to get that right! Be sure to connect the ozone output hose with the inlet of the trap, not the outlet, as explained here). Take a new shorter piece of silicone tubing and attach one end to the outlet of the trap and the other end to the inlet of the oil bubbler. Pour the desired amount of oil into the oil bubbler (1/3 to 1/2 full). Turn the oxygen source on and set it at a flow of 1/8 to 1/2 LPM. Turn on the ozone generator and set it at the highest ozone concentration. Let it run around the clock and keep checking on it until you achieve the desired consistency.

IMPORTANT!!

Ozonating oil is not without risks. Fires have been reported to occur. The process should always be supervised. Never leave your equipment alone for too long. If the generator is too powerful and the amount of oil small enough, the generated heat and oxygen environment can create a fire hazard. Always make sure there is enough ventilation or cooling in place, once the temperature of the oil starts rising.

Paola's Tip:

Ozonating oil to get the desired semi-solid consistency can take up to a few weeks of continuous ozonation. Many things can go wrong in that time: fires, oil can enter your machine, your machine can burn out, you can run out of oxygen. It's often a messy, labor intensive process which requires a lot of attention. Why go through all this trouble and potentially damage equipment you spent a lot of money on? A safer and more practical option is to buy already made oil. There are many sellers who are more than happy to do the messy part for you and who offer great quality ozonated oils in all the variations and scents you can imagine.

Risks and How to Avoid Them

Risk: Fire hazard.

How to avoid it:

  • Do not leave your equipment unsupervised
  • Make sure there is enough cooling and ventilation
  • Buy already ozonated oil instead of making it yourself

None

    Hi Paula

In regards to the skin cancer Basal Cell Carcinoma, how many times a day was the ozonated olive applied to the lady's head?

      Hi andrea,

that's the first time I am hearing this.

Ozonated oils can keep for years, so am not sure why one would try to make them last even longer …

Hi! I just come up with this website looking for information about ozonized water. We just bought the machine to get the ozone water.
I am dealing with mold so, my sinus are a mess. I have a lot of inflammation there. I am doing nasal washes with this ozone water.
Also I am doing ozone trought the IV. Do you have a protocol for mold treatment or any suggestions?

      Hi Mariela,

I dont' have any specific protocol for mold issues … but if your sinuses are affected then doing nasal washes sounds like a good idea. Ozone IVs are a great systemic treatment, so they will likely address the problem, wherever it is located.

You may also want to look into the Bean Protocol or the low Vitamin A diet.

Detoxing the liver may be the key factor here … but admittedly I don't know much about mold illness …

When you have to replace the oil you're using for breathing ozone through oil, can that be that you're replacing be used as Ozonated oil? Or not since you probably aren't ozonating the oil for the same duration during breathing treatments as you are with what you're mentioning in this article?

      Hi Adam,

Yes, you can use that oil as ozonated oil. It is replaced for fresh oil typically after many hours of doing BOOO.

    Hello,

I would like to know more about ozonated olive oil and skin cancer. I know of someone who has rare skin cancer on their face and so a sauna would be an indirect approach though I'm sure it would also have its benefit.

How long does this stay ozonated? Permanently? I know ozonated water loses potency with time so I’m curious..

      Hi Travis,

ozonated oils stay that way for years … can be 5 or 10. So, they essentially don't lose their potency, at least compared to ozonated water.

    Hi Paola,
I have just found your site and thank you for the info there.

I had skin cancer several years ago on my ear tip. A year ago I developed on my cheek a small patch of dry flakey skin that will not go away. I started to put O3 avocado oil on it, only to find the area became quite red and appeared inflamed. No doctor has diagnosed it as I do not wish to have them remove a chunk of tissue from my face. I wondered if I was encouraging the growth or spread by applying the O3 oil, rather than inhibiting it? Now the area is back to dry flakes and darker pink.

My questions are: Have you seen ozonated oil help with Basal cell skin cancer or any other type of skin cancers? Can an ozone sauna for detox help the cancerous skin on the face and head which are not going to be directly exposed to the O3 steam? I do not have an ozone sauna but I was thinking of getting one. with appreciation

Hello Paula, you mentioned you can buy ozonated olive oil, how you gonna use it to breath the ozonides,? I bought 2 ounce from Promo life Can you use that for breathing? Thank you!

I have had 3 sinus surgeries for nasal polyps. I now realize it wasnt the best way to handle it but i was desperate to breathe. I lost my sense of smell years ago probably from being chronically inflamed. Although i feel at times that i can smell so maybe ill get it back.

Do you know if BOO is effective for people who are susceptible nasal polyps? If so how often can one use BOO per day , per week?

    • Paola Dziwetzki

      Hi Leona,

unfortunately, I don't know if BOO can resolve polyps … but if there is inflammation present, then BOO or nasal rinses with ozonated water could help with that.

You can do BOO daily or even twice daily. Just make sure you exchange the oil often enough. So when it gets saturated with ozone, swap it for fresh oil.

I've been dealing with nasal polyps for a few years now. They involve a nervous system disorder as well as an allergen. I found that by removing the allergen, fixing the nervous system disorder (with a limbic system retraining program or neuro dynamic retraining system such as that of Dr. Annie Hopper) will fix the problem. I was also doing sinus ozone insufflations twice a day)
      Hope this helps.

Hi Paola, thank you for this informative site! Do you have information on taking ozonated olive oil internally? I recently purchased this as a supplement in capsules that is meant to be taken internally. Do you feel this is an effective route?

      Hi Diane,

I've tried to ingest ozonated olive oil once with a spoon and I found it to be one of the most disgusting things imaginable, so never tried it again.
But if if is in a capsule, then I can imagine it is more palatable.
The ingestion of ozonated oils for therapeutical purposes has been a common holistic practice in Germany for decades. In Germany, one can buy them in pharmacies under the name rizol.

      Hi,
      no I don't.
I also do not believe those are the best for ozonating oils. The Russians stress the importance of using refined oils for ozonating.
